Varangian Sword has 40 durability, still viable?

I heard the weapon does decent damage but the 40 durability stat sets off alarms in my head, most straight swords have 60 durability, does the damage outweight this weakness? At least compared to something like the sun sword

The best straight sword is the drake keepers sword. It does a little less damage (single digit difference at 40/40 scaling) but has 25 poise damage and more durability. The sword also has more range. It's a bit heavier but its just a better sword overall.

As for the sunsword, its actually a pretty bad sword unless you want to pvp with it. It almost does 100 damage less than the vangarian when both are maxed out and infused. The r2 on the sunsword is the only reason why you would ever want to use the sword, but if you are going to minmax as much as possible then go with drake keeper.
