It's like the first covenant you can join in the game in Majula when you go up to the big stone thingy. It makes the game harder and it also makes it pretty much impossible to see summon signs.

Just wanted to let anybody know that doesn't read, I did the same thing when I bought DS2 last month lol.

You can't summon or be summoned, that is part of the covenant. It makes enemies hit harder and you do about 20% less damage.

Arguably the first covenant you can join is the Blue Sentinals.

I never summon people on my first playthrough. It makes the game way to easy.

Yep, this covenant makes all enemies do 20% more damage, you do 20% less damage, and you cannot summon or be summoned, but you can still be invaded.

Yea, I joined it just to find out what it was, and had an "epic" fight with the three undead piglets things in Majula. Thankfully the NPC that allows you to leave covenants was also accessible there.

I was wondering why I was getting my ass kicked in so hard earlier today. Enemies were 1-2 shotting me even with my health pumped up and wearing the heaviest armor I had at the time. At the same time, it took me like 6-7 hits to kill a single enemy...needless to say, game was infuriatingly hard. I'll probably look into a playthrough with this covenant later, but for now, I just restarted since I lost so many souls because of it.
