The other one for me has to be 5-1: The Valley of Defilement. That is where I fell in love with the brutality that these games offer. When I finally made it to Leechmonger and defeated the disgusitng mess it was one of my happiest gaming moments ever.
My favorite boss was the boss of 5-3 in Demons Souls, Maiden Astraea. While one of the easiest fights of the series, it actually made me feel like a bad person for killing her. And the dialogue of Garl Vinland did a good job of making me feel like I had a choice in the matter, even though you really don't. But the state of the world around Astraea that the game forces you to go through leading up to her made me feel as if I had to do it, even if I were given a choice.
yes i felt like that too, garl vinland make them romeo and julia, this the only boss in the sries that make you feel like a killer...
In Dark Souls, Artorias was easily the best boss imo, both as a character and an opponent. No cheap BS tricks, dark heavy music, great looking arena, sad backstory. Sif was second, and top for looks. As far as areas go, I thought Ash Lake was awe inspiring.
Dark Souls 2 has quite a bit to live up to, and by the sounds of it, it may not.
Demons Souls - 3-2. i just preferred its more spiral staircase design and catwalks that falloff into blackness. as someone whos moderately afraid of heights the whole levels design really got to me. I also really like how that level just kept getting "worse" from the heights down into the hell of that bloody bog and those disgusting crawly creatures.
Boss--False King. i love boss fights that really demand precision and timing and that fight was pretty brutal and the fact that he could actually lower your level(which blew my mind) made the fight even more intense.
Dark Souls - Sens Fortress. what a trolly as hell area filled with some brutal traps that really doesnt feel like any other part in the game. Honorable mention for Anor Londo as well with its catwalks, archers, O&S, fast travel and "amazing chest ahead". a lot of good stuff packed into that brutal place.
Boss--Artorias. not the hardest boss in the game, but it was just a badass one on one fight against someone who had such a mentioned reputation in the lore. the best fights in the series are when its just you versus another "humanoid" type fast character. Honorable mention to Gwyn WITHOUT using magics or parrying which is how i fought him. Painfully intense fighting him like that which took me 3hours to finally beat him.
image what he would do with NOT broken hand and with sheild ^^
I don't own a PS3 but I remember in my neighbors house he played Demons Soul and when I saw this area I got chills, I felt the hopelessness and nightmarish atmosphere suffocate me a little. Its a virtual hell. Excellent level design indeed.
