Wormholes and anomalies
From what I understand this game only involves 1 solar system.
This must be a VERY VERY chaotic system for all of these anomalys and wormholes to be present.

One solar system <even a binary system> with dozens of stable wormholes seems rather implausible. Due to excessive use of gate technology I could the understand lots of random unstable wormholes that only last a few days <game time>. These should spawn like the anomalies do now except they should be fairly rare and only in deep space <2-3 hex's away from nearest planet>. When you fall into an unstable wormhole you should have no idea where you are about to end up unless you scan it before you jump. As the wormhole becomes more and more unstable during its lifetime the larger the risk to your ship. Traveling through an unstable wormhole can knock your shields or subsystems offline.

The same logic applies to anomalies it seems that they are WAY to common and some of them are just kinda silly. A plasma pulsar for example is a form of neutron star. If one of these randomly poped up in any solar system it would cause absloute and total chaos.

The anomalies are a nice addition to combat but I feel they should be linked to objects inside asteroid/junk fields <destroying the object disperses the anomaly>. Some asteroids are highly radioactive or voltile. Floating junk can cause interferance in your systems.
I feel that the asteroid fields should be more hetrogeneous in their composition.
Then random asteroids / junk within each field will have the potential to create anomalous effects. Scanning the anomaly should be the same as you are now trying to figure out what is causing the specific effect be it geological or mechanical in nature.

A lot of the anomalies might also be in the game atm for testing purposes ;-)

the game might be unrealistic when it comes to wormholes and such...but then again, as humans we have not yet (to my knowledge) any knowledge of how many is present in any sector at any given time irl...so maybe the game might be spot on with wormholes, or totally unrealistic ;)

I think if wormholes were as common as this game makes them out to be we would know about them. "Hey where did that asteroid go?" "Why are all these asteroids swirling around a vortex?"

It's a game...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief

Tolkien says that, in order for the narrative to work, the reader must believe that what he reads is true within the secondary reality of the fictional world. By focusing on creating an internally consistent fictional world, the author makes secondary belief possible. Tolkien argues that suspension of disbelief is only necessary when the work has failed to create secondary belief.

My examples have an internal logical consistancy.
A side effect of gate travel <which is controlled warping of space/time> is that you get unstable vortex's that form into short lived wormholes as the fields from the gate's firing interact with each other.

I made a thread earlier I felt was relevant to this discussion. Hope you don't mind me linking it.

to be fair, I'm just stating that none of us really know if or how a wormhole works in real life..so how can we say if a game implements it wrong..or even if there can be a multitude of them around in the same area. For all we know, maybe there are wormholes all over our tiny part of the galaxy, we just don't know how to find them... ;-)

Seeing that this is SPG2, the story of the first game could perhaps answer just why there are so many anomalies and wormholes around - what caused all that chaos.
I have only played a bit of SPG1, but as far as I recall, the story did have to do with some strange events having to do with anomlies.
