Camera track target?
Is there a key so that the camera tracks target and keeps it in view?

yep but it's unassigned by default. Go through your keybindings and set it.

It under Camera view and it's called Chase camera. It allows you to fix camera view of your target in front of you so you can maneuver your ship easier.

Great thanks I thought chase cam was like the default chase cam for your own ship. I'll give it a go.

No this is actually a toggle button. You will see a hand icon when it's toggled on and whenever you target an enemy you will keep it locked in front of you until it dies. I don't use that cam though I got used to normal view. :)

Cool, just tried this out in a few battles and this camera mode works much better for me.

The idea is to give players as many choices as we can. I play with default view, use WASD for moving and mous for targeting and shooting, but many people love turret mode better (default button Space, I think). I was never able to do anything with it. :)

Yea it's nice there are the different ways to control the ship. I have settled into turret view with chase cam and wasd for moving and mostly use fire at will. Enjoying the game more now that I have a handle on the controls during battles.

Fire at Will is a good command, but to make it even more efficient, target the enemy and choose Mark Target from context menu (middle mouse). In about 2 or 3 second all mercenaries, your fighter wing and your weapons that are able to hit the marked target will do so. Why 2, 3 seconds? That's the time needed to recalculate firing trajectories to a new target you designated.

I use normal view as well. The only time I use turret view is if I want to shoot my rear heavy battery.

It's a good idea to try out some manual shooting with different ships to get a good feel for their firing arcs. Sometimes they overlap a bit and let's you use multiple light weapons at once (front + right cannons for instance).

When you know these different firing arcs you can position yourself to use it to your advantage. There's a video dedicated to this in the stickied Video Tutorials thread.
