I have made a SPG 2 profile for the saitek X52 pro, if anyone is interested i will post it.
Right now i only use fire at will and shift a bit between stick and mouse, i have all the mappable contols set in my x52 profile, so i use all the buttons on the hotas.
Hehehe. Thanks. :)
I just wish I have that HOTAS setup. Maybe will buy it for Star Citizen...
I wonder if the guys that made Darkstar One might be able to give the devs some pointers on how to properly setup HOTAS. Everything just works without any need for programming at all with their game.
I bought Thurstmaster T-Flight X hotas in the meantime (a month ago) and I love it. Yes, I could get used to more buttons, but hey, it's a budget hotas and it works perfect. At least what I've tried in SPG2, Star Conflict, Star Citizen, Evochron Mercenary and Elite Dangerous. No problems with any games so far. :)
Recent Windows contains the basic profiles for joysticks. You can configure it (if you even need to) using the Windows Hardware Configurator. Advanced drivers will allow for more button use and response curves (which affects deadzones).
The issue with SG2 is that the profile is for XBOX, which has huge deadzones and relies on digital response rather than analog. In old X-Wing, for example, if you deflect the stick a little to the left, you get a very gradual left turn. In SG2, delfecting the stick left does nothing until you push it past the response point. Then you get a set left turn. Deflecting any more won't make a harder turn, you just get the one turn rate and it's an on/off proposition. It's the same prblem with the SG2 throtttle, since the XBOX thumbstick nulls in the middle whereas joystick throttles null at the bottom of their throw.
The HOTAS-X is a fine joystick on a budget: I use that one as well. There are better, but not at that price point, and it's much more durable than the Saetek product. I had the Top Gun II which was the same as the HOTAS-X minus two buttons, and it lasted over a decade with heavy, heavy use.
I am just trying to setup my X52 Pro. I would be very interested in you posting your SPG2 setup profile. Thanks!
I think part of my problem is I also use a 360 controller. I seems unless you develope the game to let me choose which controller the game uses then it automatically selects the wrong one. Even going in and manually setting my HOTAS setup for older game support doesn't work. It's a hassle to have to remove controllers all the time for specific games. You'd think devs would just understand that most gamers have multiple controllers these days..I mean hell it's 2015.
I think the bigger problem is that Hardware manufacturers intentionally hardwire every controller differently, even among two different controllers from the same manufacturer. Why didn't they agree on universal setup which developers could put into their games and every controller of the same type (more or less) would work.
