Rate of fire ?
Hi all,

I bought the game a couple of days ago and i m having a lot of fun with it (can't wait for the final release ^^).

That being said, i still have some trouble understanding some aspects of the game.

For exemple, i don't understand the rate of fire stat.

In most games that i ve played, the higher the rate of fire stat is, the faster it shoots. But in SPG2 i m kinda confused with this stat. I ve noticed that railguns have a lower rate of fire score compared to plasma guns for exemple.

For exemple i ve seen railguns with a 0.2 ROF versus plasma guns with a 0.7 ROF. As i ve said, in many other games it would mean that the plasma gun is shooting faster than the railgun. But i also know from previous experiences that railguns usually shoot fater than plasma guns.

So how does the rate of fire stat works exactly please ? Does the smaller your rate of fire score is, the faster your weapon shoots (that would be confusing compared to many other games using a rate of fire stat) ? I d like an official answer to be sure about it.

Thanks in advance.

I think it means how long in seconds it takes to get a shot off. So 0.2 would mean basicaly 5 shots per second. don't quote me on this, I'm not a developer but the ufo series of games list their rate of fire in this way, so that could be it. :)

I came to understand this as (since it is a sort of Eastern-European way of thinking - which is also mine) that one shot per x.y seconds, so the said railgun shoots one round in every 0.2 seconds, meaning 10 shots per 2 seconds. The plasma in turn shoots 1 round in every 0.7 seconds, meaning 10 shots in 7 seconds.. I was thinking on to make an additional column with a different fire rate, for example x rounds in one second in the wiki.

Has this been confirmed that the rate of fire stat is "X seconds per shot" and not "X shots per second"?

I would prefer an over all DPS (damage per second) stat in addition to damage per shot and shots per second stats since DPS is really what matters.

It's "X seconds per shot". A rail gun with .2 most certainly does not take 5 seconds to shoot a single projectile.

DPS isn't the only consideration when dealing with weapon mounts. Power capacity and power per shot is also a big factor in the effectiveness of a weapon, especially larger/longer battles where you can't count on victory by burst.

True. So can we maybe get those stats added to weapon tooltips?

DPS
Power Per Second
Shots per full charge
