Does the dlc add anything to the standard game? Or is it an entirely new area outside the normal game-play universe?

Well...yes it does. Four new ships (Corvus/Corvus MkII Corvettes, Tyrant Destroyer, and Echelon Bettleship). One new, scalable beam cannon you can tweak a bit thru 'applied research'. Some structural facelifts here and there.The Secrets of Aethera 'campaign' itself is a side-bar to the main campaign. Everything from the DLC is available in freeroam. But otherwise, it's the same universe, same character profiles to buff up.. or not, as one may be disposed. ;)

You might get lucky and come across one roaming the Aethera Nebula, but it isn't very likely.

Also, don't capture any of the Ghost ships that spawn as part of a rift mission - they will become permanently be phased should you succeed, and the mission will be rendered uncompletable as the ship must be destroyed for the rift to close.

Missions are the easiest way to earn xp and thereby rank. Should you apply mods remember that not all are up to date with the new DLC.

I think most mods are updated now, but if not that can lead to game crashes.

I just wanted to add that Aethera has 2 parts. For people that are playing or finished campaign, you the story continues in Aethera.

For people in Freeroam, they have access to stations, ships, side missions, new station, just not the storyline. Since they chose the freeroam at the start of the game.

Of course, we gave you the option to start new DLC game and that way you can play Aethera storyline even if you didn't finish campaign. ;)

Just finished the campaign. Completed the first mission of the Aethera DLC. No second mission spawned. Fix please?

Just happened across this, and not sure if my problem is the same or just similar: I have just aquired the Aethera Shield blueprint, and ... Now what?
