heawys use ammo and does not fire them selves. you have to target and fire them whhile facing the enemy with the desired battery.
Its just the way the guns work they are all directional even when i can see the side guns have a clear target shooting forward they wont unless i angle the ship...
Ive posted about this in my idea thread but i doubt theyll change it now its probs too much work.
I love the shield idea but with guns it doesnt work. Some ships show all guns visable aiming forward yet wont shoot!!
To fix this they would need to remodel all the ships or something. I think it would be great and affect ship choice dramatically as some ships could have side and front guns firing all the time while others couldn't or atleast some of the side guns
I use to think why im only seeing one kind of bullet and its just the mechanics.
That said, would make certain heavy weapons insanely OP if they could be fired from all angles..just imagine firing the 5k damage from all 4 batteries on a dreadnought, or the 3-4 second reloading Enthropy missiles.
The heavy weapons, would make a lot more sense if you could fire them easily on multiple targets at the same time, but, I'm not sure I want another FaW mechanic to do just that
You will struggle with the later campaigns if you don't change to the turret view (and miss out on some of the Acheivements as they're only possible using all your weapons, or one Acheivement in particular you need to use your aft battery while fleeing).
Each weapon has its own battery that gets depleted as you fire it before being charged by the power core. So once you've depleted your fwd batteries, turn to either side and you'll get some more firepower to play with as your fwd batteries recharge (port, starboard AND aft batteries to be precise). This is only really possible/effective with turret view and the tactial panel up. The tactical panel shows firing arcs and battery energy left as well as all of your sheilds and equipment status.
So as soon as you've run outta battery fwd, you can change batteries. Or you notice them throw up a temporary shield for the battery type you're using, swap battery types. and so on and so forth. this game has the scope to be as tactical or not as you wish.
:P
Some ships are fine and have broadside turrets which makes sense and have a 360 arc aarond the ship is sound and allows you to engage in all targets. My point was ships that are vertical with a face and wings show all turrets being able to shoot forward yet they cant because the mechanic of the turrets doesnt care about the ship shape or logic it only sees the ship as a square with 4 sides of guns that will only ever shoot at certain arcs.
I hope that explained what i ment. I love the ships in this game but some just dont make sense with the firing arcs as you can see all the front and side guns could easy shoot in a 180 forward while the side guns could also shoot 180 arc behind. Ofc some ships side guns couldnt shoot behind but still forward and some only sideways.
The shape of the ship is pointless as explained above. The ship is a square.
