Controller Support
Hey all,

So I see this game is tagged with partial controller support. In my experience the level of support for games tagged like this can range from barely there to near perfect. As this is a major factor in me buying this game or not I thought I would make a quick post here. Anyone care to chime in with their experience using a controller for this game? Will I find I have to use mouse/kb frequently or can I get by on using the controller alone? I'm using an Xbox 360 controller. Any info is appreciated, thanks much!

Hey jstall,
thank you for the interest in our game!
it's tagged with partial controller support since it doesn't support every controller, especially joysticks/HOTAS. I'd say out of all controllers, it works best with Xbox 360/One controllers - today's update added an additional control mode intended for playing with only controllers, and the only 2 controllers which we currently support for that mode are the Xbox controllers. You should be able to do basically everything with the gamepad that you can usually do with a mouse/keyboard.
I won't comment on "how it feels" playing this game using a controller, since i might be biased in that aspect :D
I will say however that the majority of players stated that they currently prefer playing with a mouse+keyboard since the game was originally envisioned to be played in that manner, and we're still improving the controller support as you can see by today's changelog.

Hope this helped :)

Karlito,

Thanks much for your response! I'm sold :-)
Im having a problem with my xbox control too, when in space you hit F3 then move to equipment tab it will unmount the item fine, but you pick what you want to mount next and hit the A button and nothing will mount..... i have the new update as of today

Hey Warz,
you're right - i just tried out and i'm getting the same result.

The problem is that it was intended that you first hit START to open up the menu, then open Fleet, then go to Equipment - it should work just fine this way (it does for me).
EDIT: it might take you longer mounting/unmounting this way, but that's why the game pauses as soon as you first hit START.
By using the keyboard shortcut alongside the controller, some steps are skipped (our mistake) so the panel doesn't seem fully responsive.

Sorry about this, we'll try to fix it in an upcoming update so you're not forced to use the longer route for accessing your equipment :)

LOL, Start dont work eighter....... its an xbox 360 wireless......

That's strange,
you should make sure that your controller is configured properly at Options->Controls (when in control mode Joystick/Gamepad (and keyboard) ). Gamepad controls are listed at the very bottom, make sure that "Show Menu" is binded to your START button

EDIT:
it probably didn't set this up automatically for you as it should since i test it on a wired xbox360 instead of wireless

the 'show menu' has NA showing, tried to bind it no luck....
Can I go into the steam folder for this game and find the controller config file and try to edit it there and save it?
Karlito Feb 18, 2015 @ 4:43pm
You could, the config file is named "StarpointGemini2Configuration.cfg" - but if the game isn't reading your input i'm not sure if you can just fix it manually through the config file.

Could you please send us your log file once you're in the Options menu with the Xbox controller, we should be able to figure out why this is happening and issue a quickfix shortly

this should explain how to send the log file

I dont see why you wouldn't be able to. I have done this for alot of games.
Edit: This thread sold me on the game. thanks for adding controller support.

Great I will give it a try and get right back to you, and send the log file. I must say I am really hooked on this game. My first space game that nailed me was the Home World series. I think this game is so much more richer in every aspect of space games, you all have a winner!

email sent with file
Well that was worth a shot, still showing 'Show Menu' -> N/A

just to make sure, you successfully bind the START key to Show Menu - it registers a pressed joystick button, but after Applying Changes - when ingame while flying through space START doesn't do anything?

EDIT: can you also try binding the START key to the last button - BR Button?
