SOL System - SPOILER ALERT

OK, so here is my question.
I get to the point in the campaign where I jump to the SOL system.
I got the medications & supplies for the starbase, and I decided I wanted to go see Earth.
Set Waypoint, then Go-To and about 1/3 of the way there it says I am leaving the mission area and gives me two choices.
1. Reload from saved game.
2. Continue in free-roam (or something like that) and tells me I will not be able to cmplete the campaign.
I click on 2 ('cause I really want to go to Earth)
However, the game then somehow magically warps me back to the Gemini system.
Why?
I wanted to check out the SOL system.

Yes, the other system is there purely for some storyline purpose. You cannot fully explore that other map. But if you wanna see Earth, just take a walk outside and watch the skies at night. I should definitely do that more often, I grew roots on my computer. :-/
