I just captured a ship, what next?
As part of a mission, I boared and captured a tacky looking gunship, what can I do with this? Can I grapple it to a station where I can make it my own, or should I just destroy it or leave it desolated in space? I'm a Gunner if that makes any difference.

TL;DR, can you use a captured ship as your own?

:UPDATE: I just grappled and dragged the pirate vessel to a nearby station, is it safe to tow it at "travelling speed" (full power to thrusters)?

Hello Prayfor.

Yes you can tow is back to a station and sell it, or add it to your garage to use yourself. You can tow it at Power to Engine Speed with usually no issues.

Capping ships is a nice money maker in SPG 2

Yeah, I noticed, I've been wanting to get a new ship too, since the starter one looks like ass.

Also, is there any way to reverse? You can go full stop and decellerate, but I'm not seeing a reverse option.

no reverse speed.

Did they fix that in warlord? Not having reverse thrusters is kinda weird, and a bit of a problem, gameplay-wise.

No "fix". It is a design choice.

Lots of times your grapple will fail. Depends on the size of the ship towing the captured ship and some enhancements to the grappler. I've never seen it happen when just using engines with the power triangle fully at speed, but it has happened in PTE. If it does, you can try again and again until you get it to the station or you can just go non-PTE to a station.

So much is wrong with this game that breaks logic and common sense.
You can't fly ships you capture if you are not ranked for it.
But hey you can tow it, sell it, even destroy it. But fly it? Nope.

I keep coming back to this game after I forget this crap. Because it is so close to what I want, but so far from what should be happening. Between this crap and level scaling it's enough to piss me off all over again.

Nobody seems to make a space sim that simply works.
If it's not X3's over complicated menu system and tard AI flying. Or Rebal Galaxy's even more horrendous level scaling. Then it's StarPoint's lockout and nearly equal level scaling issues and other logic flaws.

Why can't someone simply make a universe where you keep what you kill, go where you want, fly what you want, and not be tied down by some tard arbitrary number you can game and manipulate?
Is it REALLY that hard?

So it doesn't surprise me there is no reverse either.

It is common for a game to pace the player progression, for balance purposes.
If you do not care about balance, cheat.

btw RG has next to no level scaling.

Common for other games. Does not mean it's right for this type of game.
It's developers applying what they deem as 'good game mechanics' to something that does not need it. Just because they learned it in some game jam.
Unless your goal is to fool a 12 year old then it's not needed.

I can cheat in money, cheat in levels, cheat in whatever I want.
But then some other mechanic always gets in the way and it comes full circle.

It's not the game mechanics, it's just mechanics. Planes and rockets don't have reverse thrusters either, for good reasons. And you can tow or sell a plane without knowing how to fly it. These choices seem realistic to me, with minor downsides (making a U turn, taking time to "learn" to fly).

Realism? It's a game. If we wanted realism, you would have no sound (which should cut down costs for sound design), space would be black, not with those skyboxes, and if you are killed, you are killed. (I'm kidding here, but there is a point in debate of how realistic should a game be)

There is absolutely no reason, gameplay wise, to have reverse since you can turn in place. We tested this with our players during Early Access and majority decided it was not needed. It might be cute though, but we had other more important things then adding feature that is mentioned once per year on forums. If we were some AAA team, money and time wouldn't be a problem and this would be a much better game for double the price. :)

Yeah, it's fine.

That being said, if you ever do a space fighter sim then creating a system where you maintain intertia while turning would be fun. Then you could do stuff like boost in one direction, spin 180 degrees, and fire at enemies behind you since your ship itself is now facing backwards.

Like some kind of space drift challenge? :)
Jungfaha Mar 1, 2018 @ 9:07am
more like basic space physics, but implimenting that in a software... i thinnk ive only seen a few done, or partially done.

Oh ya, Kerbal Space program, partial effects on elit dangerouse, and partial effect in battlestar galactica online.

Though none the less, this game is great and i plan on compleating the the Origins on SPG2 because SPG1 controls are wacky... I got a Legionnare frigate, finished a lvl 70 Hero on hard mode, and the only thing ive modified and taken advantage of are, 1 the name of the main character changed that to have a more personal feeling in the game, and saved at a station to reload back in the same save cuz the store and troopers were low. Thus reloading into a game resets the trooper count. thats about it.

whoops been ramblin again.... cya ;)

Yeah, I understand. We never went for newtonian physics or realism, we wanted to keep it light and fun. Starpoint Gemini Warlords ended up as a very complex game but with keeping that SPG2 look&feel.
