Both are great games with different progression paths.
DD1 could roll negative attributes (not sure if thats still a thing) in nightmare mode. and in multiplayer it boiled down to "my numbers are bigger, i build". I love the diversity this game has. Also, in DD2, anything that can drop can be used. You could find a pefect piece of gear in chaos 1. and you can upgrade it to the same potential as something found in chaos 10. DD1, you often had to farm a map, and you only had 1 shot at an elite piece of gear per round. Some of that still exists in incursions, but they are not objectively the best items in the game, so its not forced.
