Cannot download this game
Steam says this game is in my library, but when searching my library, the game is not listed (so I cannot manually install/uninstall). There is no "Dungeon Defenders II" or similar folder in my SteamApps/Common floder. If I click "Play Now" on the store page, I get a dialog box that says "Scanning for Steam games updates" for about 30 seconds, then reloads the Dungeon Defenders II store page (repeat ad nauseum). I've restarted my computer multiple times with no changes. There is no way to download and play. What should I do?

Give the following a try:

1. Close/Quit the Steam client completely. (Make sure no Steam.exe are running via Task Manager)
2. Navigate to your Steam folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam) and delete all folders except these 3 folders / files:
-SteamApps
-userdata
-Steam.exe

Open Steam with Steam.exe, it will redownload all the necessary files again.
3. Try playing the game again.

You can also try switching to the beta client (or off it) by going to Steam -> Settings -> Account and changing your beta participation. That should refresh your steam files for you to get it working.

Let us know how that works out for you!

Option 3 did not work. Will try the other approach later, but it seems hackish, and I'm not optimistic.

Option 3? Only 2 options there good sir. Maybe I so write that a little betters but Steps 1-3 is Option 1 and then Option 2 is trying to switch the beta client. Basically your Steam client hasn't properly refreshed its files from Steam which one of these two options should force that refresh.

Option 2 then.

Option 1 didn't work, and because of your flippant attempt to use a shotgun to fix this, all my friends sharing is also gone. Thanks to you, it will take me *many* hours to fix this mess.

i am having the same issues, and can say that opt 2 does not work either. im assuming you deleted a shared version to install your own copy as i did, and it says it is in your library. im sorry that you lost so much and will need to work hard to get it back, but am thankful that i now know it doesnt work. i really wanted to play DD2 too...

I had the same issue and I fixed it by having my friend that had it in his library take me off his sharing so I couldn't see his games in my library. It then still showed it as in my library but when I hit play now it started the download. Hope this works for you guys as it did me :D

There is no "shotgun" approach. Standard procedure with wierd issues like that is to start Steam fresh. Blame Steam for having so many odd interface bugs.

Also, it's not that difficult to setup sharing, as friends can have steam send you an email to request access, and you just have to click the link in the email. It's dead easy.

All of the times I've heard this reported, it's been due to players having Family Sharing enabled. Try turning family sharing off and I expect it'll work like a charm. ;)

Reinstalling Steam did not fix my issue. This game does not rank high enough on my wishlist to go through the rigamarole so far. Getting my friends to setup sharing has *never* worked through the "simple" request access feature that is supposed to be "dead easy." I'm not turning family sharing off for one game. Looks like I won't be playing this game. Blame Steam or whoever, but it isn't my job to fix this.

But it is your job to not be a jerk about it. Your own laziness is not an excuse to be rude to the devs about a problem that isn't their fault.

Dear Gorgon,

I was not a jerk, and it is their fault if they wish to host on Steam. And trying their approach did hork my system. How would you feel? Should we let them slide?

It is *not* their fault or their approach though. It's a bog-standard method of trying to solve weird issues with Steam. The issues are Steam's fault, and the game devs are not incompetent or stupid for recommending a standard Steam troubleshooting method.

If you don't like the inconvienience caused when Steam has a weird bug, blame Valve, not the devs of this game. There is literally nothing the devs of Dungen Defenders can do to prevent Steam from having weird issues on rare ocasions. They are responsible for the game, not for Steam.

So you didn't try turning family sharing off to see if it fixed it?
