Can you unlock characters without spending real money?

Some cool characters in the game, but it seems kinda pricey to purchase the currencies required for them.

Ideas?

yes you can, complete missions (press "J" to show current missions) and then you can buy heroes with defender medals

Thank you. Does it take a long time to collect them? I think I have around 3300 at the moment.

some heroes cost 10k, and others 12k. its not fast but not slow to get the amount needed.

if you farm demon lair alot you can unlock 1x 10k hero every day if not then casual gameplay will take around 7 days to unlock a hero

dont do that demon layer thingy. it only guves defender medals. you will need tons of crafting materials later on. just play the game, do your dailys +weeklys and you will be able to purchase a new hero every 1-2 weeks.
especially for the start you might want to invest 1k medals in a defense rate shard though. that will boost you quite a bit. (if you like to spend 2k more medals get yourselfe a destruction and a deadly strike shard.) those 3 shards if upgraded will make a huge difference in your gameplay. like HUUUUUUGE

I have bought every hero with medals. It takes approximately 1.5-2 weeks doing just Dailies and Weeklies to get 10k medals. You also get some assistance from the Daily Calendar with 1500 Medals every 30 day iteration.

Also please note that there is 2k Defender Medals (DM) limit per day given from maps. It does not include Daily / Weekly quests but after getting 2k DM a day, game stops to give more DM after map completion.

really? i did not know that. guess to limit botting or something? but thats 80 maps anyways. not impossible to reach, but quite a lot
