No.
Cross-play and Cross-save will not be incorporated into DD2 as it is not supported by the game's engine. There are also concerns with platform-specific (exclusive) items as well as legal hurdles with Microsoft, Sony, and Steam due to microtransaction sales.

The funny thing is the game is done via Trendy's online servers (online only). Which means cross play is actually quite possible. The game engine for DD2 is Unreal Engine 3 which also fully support cross platform.

This means it is Trendy's decision to just not pursue a feature such as this.

There's a big difference between UE3 and a heavily customized UE3. I'm sorry but what you said doesn't make sense nor is enough to make sure cross-play is possible, it's a bit of an oversimplification. Developers still need to implement the functionality to allow players on different platforms (PC, Playstation, Xbox) to connect and play together. There are also concerns with platform-specific (exclusive) items as well as legal hurdles with Microsoft, Sony, and Steam due to microtransaction sales. The 2 parameters you've mentioned are far from the only restrictions to cross play, cross-play/save would also mean no updates for a long time until (if possible) they add it.

Coming from someone who is a developer *raises his hand* And has worked on engines from UE3 to UE5 across multiple platforms I think you're pretty far off. There are many ways to handle character progression and exclusive items. Especially given that they manage the servers centrally.

In the end it just comes down to their personal choice to not want to pursue it.

Here's the thing, I am not saying it should be done for DD2. I am saying it's fully possible. Trendy is a small team and it would behoove them to create better balance and progression then focus on cross-platform.

I understand you have experience working with different engines across platforms. My point was that simply using a similar engine (even a heavily customized one) doesn't guarantee cross-play functionality. There's still a lot of development work involved to ensure a smooth experience (not mentioning that there are full stack problem from the backend to the game and the platforms, it would involve version mismatch etc...). Of course they have the choice in the end, we always do but it's not something short term. The game would have no updates for a long time, and if cross-play is added, only a few people would be happy but the game would still be the same, no changes. Business wise it can be a double-edged sword. Anyway, it's really unlikely that would happen unless by miracle the team gets bigger in the future and they have a higher budget :steamhappy:

Very well said! And I completely agree with you! Crossplay, where possible, shouldn't be where Trendy's focus is. I would prefer to see additional maps, balancing, content, heroes.

Wrong game. Cross save has been added to DDA which uses UE4 (still supported by epic games) and not DD2 which uses UE3 (not supported by epic). Since it's not officially supported, they also have to figure out responses by themselves or the community, there isn't official support :) And obviously, UE4 has way better support for modern consoles while UE3 works perfectly well only on older consoles (PS3, XBOX 360 etc...)
