Local Splitscreen Coop
Since I haven't heard anything and there haven't been any updates to pre-existing threads in a while... I know that local splitscreen is a planned feature on the developer roadmap and that it's been added to the PS4 version. I was just wondering if there was any time line for adding it to the PC version? My wife and I loved the original dungeon defenders and we'd like to play this one together via couch coop.

Thanks!

Well to prevent balance issues, they could make it so that the split screen players share your hero deck, and your loot. Wouldn't be any different then normal really since you already get loot for all chars in your hero deck, and you can already swap between those heros on the fly.

Was definately exploitable in DD1 though when every addiontal player meant additional rewards at the end of the map, allowing you to effectively dupelicate challenge rewards while playing solo just by plugging in 3 more controllers.
Ok fine, here we go:

If they were to implement a single account split screen, it would be different than how the PS4 version works, so they'd be effectively supporting 2 different systems for each platform for no good reason as a band aid because some people can't wait for the game to be developed.

A single account system would bring a ton of issues such as if both players were to not be locked to the same deck, this system could be exploited so that anyone could use splitscreen to technically have a deck of 8 heroes.

So deck would have to be locked, if the deck is locked, and both players use the same heroes, what happens if one of them switches gear? so now you're in a situation where you gotta lock the inventory as well.

You can't allow the 2nd player to get medals, gold, drops or exp, because again this could be exploited by a single person to get double rewards.

So now you got this whole mode that locks the 2nd player into not being able to do much at all, and probably wasted a ton of development into this temporary crappy splitscreen mode that won't even make it to the release version to begin with since they're not planning to do splitscreen this way at all to begin with.

Is this really worth the trouble for a temporary poorly made solution that wasn't intended? Yea, sure, let's stop the team's development for like a month to get on this, and then another month so they can fix all the bugs from it.
It is worth thr trouble because thats the only way im playing it :/
And we should care because...?
Because he is not alone.

Drop the try hard edgy wannabe expert attitude. Life tip for ya there bud.

I don't take tips from individuals that I don't respect, so you can keep your advice.

I don't care if there's a dozen of you, doesn't change anything.

As far as we know, the people who want split screen is a really small minority. Meanwhile, There's issues just trying to run the game, connecting to the servers, numerous glitches, bugs, crashes and real messed up balance issues.

That still seems a bit more of a priority for the dev team.

And again, they said this will be implemented, they just have to get their act together first. But before that can even happen, they'll need Valve to figure a way for them to do it.

Want local co-op!
The lack of co-op is disappointing yes but since its still early acess there is plenty of time for it to be worked out, we dont even have all the heroes yet. Not too long ago there was VERY limited controller support, please be patient with the devs. IDk how it would work but in dd1 i could play with my son on the same pc and we shared my heroes, i realise that with micro transactions and other securuity issues that this is difficult problem for TE. would an idea be to lock buying gems deleting heroes etc when playing on same account co-op perhaps? At the moment I am playing mostly on ps4 so we can play together the thought of buying another PC just to play DD2 is not something I would consider. DD2 may be free but shelling out $800 or so on a pc/laptop just to play ONE game no ty. I hope somethinhg can be worked out at some point. There are more important issues for the devs to work on like game crashes and glitches. When everything else has been smothed out then they can worry about co-op.

+1, I put in hundreds of hours in DD1 specifically for the couch co-op. That isn't a feature, it's the only way I enjoy playing the game. For me and many others, there is little difference between a game that doesn't run and a game without local co-op support.
Can you guys like, wait? It is that hard?

We know some people want it, and they said they'd put it in. the game hasn't released yet, it's still being made, so can you guys actually wait for it to be done?

your pointing out the exact issue with EA games...
This is the one feature I am waiting for so I can start playing DD2. Need my split screen
Dear Friends

Dungeon Defenders was a great success, because it had local co-op mode. I am still playing 4 players local co-op. This was the first game my wife played on PC with me. Now we play with our two children. My family was very disappointed, when I launch Dungeon Defenders 2 and there was no local co-op mode. We are still waiting, but this is too long time, so we play the first part of Dungeon Defenders. The more disappointed is fact, that Dungeon Defenders 2 for PS4 has got such mode for a long time. Are you going to add such mode or not? It's the simple question.

Sincerely

Yeah, just need separate accounts to track player records/etc.

Is there any other game on Steam... that lets you have multiple Steam IDs access the same game / match / map on the same device, for online play? If TE does this on DD2, a 'first'?

Very astute! This is one of the big technical hurdles we're hitting. Local co-op is still on our roadmap for the Steam version, though. :)

@UTAVATU ofc they will add it. but they need help from valves side.
