No, it's a fixed amount awarded at the end of each wave to every hero in your Deck.
Higher difficulty maps give more XP [i.e. Harbingers on NM4 gives you much more than Harbingers on only Expert difficulty] but might take longer to complete.
You can further boost the amount of XP a hero gets by equipping certain spheres. In addition, you get an extra 35% boost for every level 50 hero in your deck.
So if you have three level 50 heroes and a level 30 Huntress, then that Huntress will potentially have a 145% boost to XP gain [2 x 20% XP boost spheres + ( 3 x 35% from level 50 heroes)].Instead of getting 100 XP points, she'll get 245 points. An EV2 would only get 205 points.
* The newer heroes can't equip M sized spheres
** Although having three level 50 Heroes in your deck speeds up the leveling of the non-level 50 Hero, if you are leveling more than one hero.... it's more efficient to forgo the 35% boost.
i.e. assuming a standard 100 XP points per map, then having one non level 50 hero in your deck gets the greatest XP gain but those level 50s don't benefit from any XP after all
# of non-level 50 in a deck of level 50 heroes = total amount of XP for all heroes that benefit from XP gain
1 in 4 = 205 [100% + (3 x 35%)]
2 in 4 = 340 [100% + (2 x 35%)] x 2
3 in 4 = 405 [100% + 35%] x 3
4 in 4 = 400 [so it's best to have at least one level 50 hero]
If you have a lvl 50 abyss lord out, and a lvl 40 huntress in your deck with exp spheres, the huntress won't get the extra exp from the spheres.
If you have a lvl 50 monk out with exp spheres and the lvl 40 huntress in your deck, the exp bonus from the spheres will apply on the huntress.

An extra bonus for using one of the 'original' heroes ^-^.

Map difficulty vs Hero level
Griblock on Insane
Before:
Bernoulli (50) [+35% boost, level 50 hero]
Einstein (28) [+35% + 20% sphere] - 76,275 current XP
Euclid (17) [+35% no sphere] - 5,276 current XP
Dirac (47) [+35% + 40% spheres] - 191,275 current XP
I never used any of the non-level 50 heroes during combat. After the match, the level 50 hero 'gained' 165,477 XP or 122,575 [subtracted the +35% bonus]
Einstein (30) [+35% + 20% sphere] - 30,752 current XP
Euclid (21) [+35% no sphere] - 28,263 current XP
Dirac (48) [+35% + 40% spheres] - 18,999 current XP
Assuming this is correct: http://wiki.dungeondefenders2.com/wiki/Experience
XP gain was
Einstein: 165,477
Euclid: 135,477
Dirac: 68,724
Griblock on NM4
This time, Bernoulli, the level 50 got 164,250
Einstein (31): 164,250
Euclid (23): 164,250
Dirac (48): 164,250
Didn't change any of the spheres/etc... but proves that heroes in the deck but not 'out' don't benefit from the spheres.
Since the numbers might look weird, I tried it on Harbinger Hard vs Insane, using an EV2 as the 'combat' hero.
87k vs 122k [and the higher level had a lot less XP from 'Hard', on Insane, all heroes got the same XP, perhaps this is TE's way of encouraging higher levels to do tougher difficulties]. Can't help feeling I blonded the math somewhere...
But yeah you got it down pretty well.
Guess so. I've tested it when leveling my gunwitch and it works.
