How do I even play this game
I played DD2 on release, and coming back now I don't understand anything I'm looking at. It used to be clear what you should do to level up as a starting character, but instead I have this map with like 6 different game modes and none of them scale to my level. As I understand it, the campaign just stops at the Wyvern Den now? What is going on?

The game is clearly dying, and It is incredibly apparent as to why. You can't pull in new players if they have no idea where to go after the tutorial. I spent like 2 hours trying to find a map that my character can succeed on, but I always get steamrolled outside the tutorial levels. So... I guess I just give up?

Just give up and find an easier game to play

if i remember right, the tutorial even tells you how to continue after killing betsy, if not, just go for expeditions, find some chaos 1 runs or open yourself some and play through them. grind your way through all chaos tiers up to tier 7.
on your way through those expeditions you gonna learn how to continue further in this game. the 6 different game modes you were talking about are:
1st the campaign,
2nd adventures - just for some ingame shop loot like defender packs and gems (unique rewards)
3rd expeditions - basic farming area for almost everyone
4th onslaught - an advanced mode like greater rifts in diablo3, you play through floors which are more difficult than chaos7 expeditions and scale up each floor
5th incursions, maps with specific subquests and map modifiers, prime incursions are way harder that chaos7
and 6th masteries, maps which require specific defences and strategies to clear

the most common way is to farm gear and stuff in expeditions, going for some incursions or onslaugh later, rest is like casual stuff you can do when you're bored of grinding.

Thank you!

The game is dying because you can't figure out the tutorial? What?
I had zero problems understanding progression when I was done with the campaign. They even have images letting you know that 3 new modes opened up. How are you lost?
Also if you spent 2 hours trying to find a map why didn't you just youtube "dd2 progression guide"?

Anyways the game isn't dying just because YOU can't figure things out.

Join other peoples groups and try to contribute until you figure out what's going on. Expeditions are kind of the start for post campaign gameplay, at least in terms of progression. Onslaught is more for pushing through ancient powers and character resets when you're geared and gtg. You unlock higher chaos difficulty levels as you equip gear with higher gearscores. The other game modes are more specialized and you'll find less public groups for them running at the war table. There's a bit of meta in between, like pets and gear stat crafting, farming specialized gear. But that's a cliff notes version.

Dying?

Bro if the Christmas tavern is still up it's the Christmas tavern from 2019...meaning this hasn't been updated in well over a year. Game is done.

played quite a bit years ago, decided to try and get back into the game but was incredibly confused by every little thing in the game since i don't remember how any of it works...

Spent the next few moments looking up how to reset my account so i can start from scratch and relearn the game... apparently there's no way of doing so, so I just uninstalled instead. The game is incredibly unfriendly to returning players. I'll just wait for OMD3 to return to this genre.

The main problem with this game. It's not for new players, or low level players..

Whenever I install and come back, everyone is high level, no one wants to group up, and I end up solo running low level stuff and uninstalling. The developers seem to really not understand video game progression / easy flow for new players.

Check out the big brains on these guys.

As a person who never once accepted carries and carries people on C7-8 Crumbled Bulwark pubs, I can tell from experience that there are 2 reasons why people don't want to carry.

1) The carrier usually has to go out of their way to assist the player with next to little or no compensation to do it
2) Sometimes the carried become so dependent on the carrier that they inevitably become leeches to the point that they can't think or do anything for themselves.

Sure, I could help you for Chaos 1 for instance, but with my gold rates and Material Conversion, I can do 1 Chaos 8 game and get all the resources I need to basically cover 2 Chaos 1 rounds and still have gold left over. The main reason I only do C8 Pubs now is I got an incentive for other people to join me: The speedup of 10 servo/chips and a shot at C9 Amps, which also applies to all parties. Anything else (Primes, Onslaught, etc.) I charge Clusters.

I understand this game isn't the easiest to start off (I was here on Pre-Alpha back when NM4 was the drizzling ♥♥♥♥♥), but giving up just because things are too difficult is pathetic, especially when there are players like myself who suffered, overcome it and got better for it.

=====================

To answer the original post, when you are done Campaign, you go to Chaos 1 and you use largely your Blockades, Traps and Auras to fend off the new monsters while playing as your best DPS hero to dispatch bosses. You can add your towers once you get Piercer servos going, starting with your poison darts so your Earthshatter can begin petrifying.

You gradually build up your defenses and strategies each Chaos till eventually you get to Chaos 7-8. By Chaos 8, you should have a reliable stunlock (ES and PDT is common at this point) and there will be plenty of parties and people willing to carry you, since now they can get a shot at C9 Amps and materials to give people an incentive to help you.

AS for Onslaught, Mastery and Primes, you deal with those when you got all the heroes, excellent shards/servos on your relics and you know what you are doing. I have also written this guide to help people understand the costs and how to form your own farming plans in the event people are unable to assist you:

As for getting assistance, it's ultimately a business. You just need to ask for assistance in a way that will give the person a fair return for diverting their resources (time is one) to help you. Just make sure you don't turn into a liability (I have had enough "friends" in DD2 turn into leeches).
