What can 500 gems buy?
Howdy. Big Terraria fan here checking out the game. I like the Dryad, like a lot. Heck, I liked her when she was just a couple'a'pixels! But uh. . . I'm not the biggest fan of the Shadow Armor vanity items, and if I'm not mistaken buying the Dryad outright is 1,500 gems.

For 15$ I can supposedly get 2,000 gems. If I just buy the Dryad, what can the left over 500 get me? Also, I may have done my math wrong. I logged in for the first time and played for an hour earlier in the morning, and may have mixed up the cost a bit.

Low key really would like that Dryad Apprentice costume, but I think it was 800. Are gems absolutely Cash Only? Or is there a way I can make 300 gems in-game? I can't see myself spending anymore cash on the game unless like a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥' Dryad skin comes out. (Personally wouldn't mind a Harpy or Nurse NPC skin!)

I haven't been following the game too closely, so I'm not sure how often this happens, but I have seen some costumes on sale for 50% off. Maybe if you wait you can get that 800 gem costume for 400 gems. Or you can buy like an inventory bag I think.

I don't think there's any way to earn gems in-game.

No way to earn gems in-game. Either buy or get a code from the devs / partners / etc, that sort of thing. There is quite a discount on gems if you buy the DLC / boosters on Steam though. Maybe take a look to see if it's something you can do?

Besides, this is one of the few F2P games where you can buy every thing [that's not cosmetic] with in-game currency [aka defender medals] if you just play for them.

Also... her icon / portrait. She looks like a girl, her card shows what appears to be a girl but isn't that icon portrait... a guy?

Sooner or later, the costumes seem to go on sale for 400/500. A bit like the packs when even they were discounted. If one was going to buy the costumes, that would be the way to go.

Actually Dryad Apprentice is showing 50% off right now for me.

Hey bud if you're new to DD2 I think that if you beat the two campaign bosses for the first time you get 200 gems each. Since I had 400 gems show up out of nowheres.
So You more than likely can get The Dryad Apprentice costume if you play through the base game.

you can also subscribe to the email of dungeon defender. usually when a new update comes out they email you a code for defender medals or gems.
it can stack until they are usable for what you need.
