Where do equipped items go when you overwrite a character?

I accidentally overwrote my main squire when buying the Abyss Lord. Losing the squire isn't too bad since I had a backup back from the days when shards weren't a thing, but all of his equipment just vanished, poof! Had some REALLY good stuff on him (was easily working my way through the new content solo). Where did all my stuff go and is it lost forever? Thanks!!!

You mean the squire in your hero deck is replaced by the abyss lord? I believe that all hereos you have are their, the deck is just the ones your currently using.

Im new to dd2 but have played extensively on dd1. try going to heroes and equipping the squire back again. Will test this and comment again in a couple of mins.

I just tried to create a new hero with 4 full slots. The game doesnt allow me to make a new hero without having a free card slot free in my deck.

Anyway found this.

Go to inventory, then on the hero side of screen at the top click 'my heroes'. The about middle of that page click 'browse all'. For me it shows a screen with my 4 owned heroes and a heap of blanks(i havent purchased any others yet). Im assuming for you you can swap and change which heroes you have equipped here.

Dan, you are a godsend!!!!! Didn't realize total heroes and hero deck were two separate things, just gotta pop him back in my deck. Thanks!!!!

fyi i deleted a character and forgot to un equip my 60/60 pet with perfect rolls, shat myself then saw it in the inventory. so any equip would probably do the same.
