Which character to buy?

Hi everyone!
I played dd1 a lot and made it through most part of endgame content. I started playing DD2 ~2 weeks ago. And dd2 seems not that... obvious (at least for now). Many guides are obsolete after last patch...
I'm playing with my son. Currently, we're both lvl 50 (asc. lvl 3) and got our first 10k medals. Time to get a new hero, but I got no clue who to buy. We didn't donate and have only 4 base heros now. We're planning to try chaos soon (and we will keep playing duo most part of the time). Looking forward for your advices.
And yes, I guess (not sure) we need both builder and dps characters.

-mystic for the trap, totem, wall, crowd control (she's very fun to use)
-driad for nimbuses, tree (can heal players and give nice crit bonus)
-lavamancer for his lava, oil trap, wall
-gun witch for his book and ice needle--->i won't recommand here at first buy since she have no interresting towers
-abyss lord for ramsters, skeleton wall and skeleton knight ability and heal aura (many players use him as main character)--->maybe "too strong"

you can use all characters if you have the right shard and gear. Apprentice, monk(anti air...) and squire are very solid characters.

Honestly, I don't use any of the dlc heroes as builders in endgame. Squire walls are great, huntress pdt or apprentice flames work well depending on which chaos you are progressing on, and monk anti-air.

Gun Witch is my personal favorite. Have mine set up to maximize scatter sweep and it's great for lane clearing and killing mobs/ogres stuck in spawn.

Abyss Lord has been my goto for chaos 5. The healing fountain is great for survivability and his knight of the abyss ability is great for both dps and crowd control.

EV2 is my goto for speedfarming c1/3/4. Weapon manufacturer with higher end relics clears them ridiculously fast.

Mystic's obelisk is amazing if you like her dps style; it can easily solo multi-lane junctions as long as you keep appeasement maxed. It's useless if you aren't actively playing the mystic, though.

I have mixed thoughts on the dryad. Not a huge fan of her dps style, but the towers are unique.

Forgot the lavamancer...honestly, not a fan of him at all. Molten core can do great damage, but I really dislike it. His defenses...ehhhh. Just not a fan.

The answer is easy. Right now, Abyss Lord. I don't know if it will change in a few weeks, the game is changing a lot. But if you want to make your Chaos experience easy, AL is the way to go... right now that is.

But Gunwitch if you plan to join PuGs. She has no towers.

well .. chaos is most of the time only a lot of enemys ... so a aoe dmg Hero is the best ( Abyss lord / ev2 / gunwitch )

i use for my build most of the time the Lavamancer ... the wall need 60 DU but hav 2x of the HP from a normal wall and can stun most of the enemys

and with the asc lvl and shard you hav a Fissure of Embermount with a 3360 range ... and it work without EMP orc stun and shild reflect ... so a realy good aoe tower

If you have the original four heroes... don't get a new one yet.

Instead, I'd suggest getting a 7500 medal pet from the Medals Vendor [in Town, she's on the docked ship]. The 'lich [terrorlich] can be a great help

Otherwise, I'd get the Dryad first... then the Summoner / Abyss Lord [Monk lost his healing aura tower in the latest update, so the Summoner's Healing Fountain is the next best thing]. If you did get the 'Lich and feel particularly bold... get the 'Witch first [plus if you liked DD1's huntress, the 'Witch is the closest analogue to her... not this DD2 Huntress]

Another possibility is to get more hero cards, so you can make duplicates of your existing heroes. Yeah... I know that the new update is supposed to let you have your cake and eat it too... but if you'd look at the places you spend Ascension points in... you might save some time if you had more than one 'copy' of a hero [how much XP does it take to level up your Ascension... at level 1... at level 100...].

who need dracoleech nowadays?
-gato pet for stun skill
-dragon pet for reflect aura
-creep pet for speed aura
-earth elemental pet for poison tips

at least a new character unlock new ways to plays...

if you plan of playing c5 difficulty, i'd go for the mystic/lavamancer/abyss lord. They are fun to play and usefull.

I guess one of us (me or my son) will pick "summoner", and the second one Lavamancer/Gunwitch/EV2 (not sure which one fits our "comp" best).
What about EV2 "utility" skills? Can it enchance defences or is it for dmg only? And in terms of dps, who is easier to gear? GW or EV2?

If you are talking about towers, EV2 has buff beams that can enhance other towers (like the boost aura of the monk), she also has proton beams that damages and slow mobs, reflector beams that reflects projectiles, and the now awesom Weapon Manufacturer which has good damage and is also fun to use.

But if you are talking about skills, EV2 has only damaging ones. She doesnt have any skill that can enhance her towers like the Lavamancer Eruption or the Abyss Lord Direct Command. But she can use the Weapon Manufacturer weapons...

If you already got the AL then any of the three others you mentioned would be good and you can gear them just as easily... you know its RNG.
