i missed fighting the wandering wight in act 1
am i screwed? I went back after getting to act 2 and he gone

Yeah, he's one of the spirits you can miss. So if you didn't get him, then you'd have to try again in NG+

I believe he disappears when you ring the three bells.

Yes, once you ring the three bells you can't go back and kill him.

Honestly, he's one of the best one's in the game too. Unless it is just unthinkable, I'd consider starting a new game.

It's a good one, but you don't need him. I beat the game without using it just fine.

If you're far ahead already, just get him in NG+.

It is a very good spirit honestly, so if it's gone and you don't want to restart, I'd just focus on a different build type until you get to Chapter 6. Go very aggressive tiger build or poison build or something else.
