i'm an over 40 years old man with reaction time so bad that i cant trigger perfect dodge even if my life are dependent on it, i still beat erlang.. twice now.
there are multiple posts here explaining how to beat him and there are multiple video on youtube explaining how erlang works, what is the timing of his attack and showcasing different strategies to beat him that dont relies on good reaction time.
sound like you just giving yourself excuses to fail on this boss.
I didn't have the luxury if collecting all Wukong's armor and staff in chapter 6 before fighting Shen Erlang. (I was afraid of progressing and locking myself out of content or something.)
Therefore, I start chapter 6, immediately traveled to chap3 on first shrine of chap 6.
I fought Erlang with upgraded mythical perfect-dodge gear. (can't remember name, and Bull defensive fire-staff, crafted from chapter 5.)
I was lv 106 and did not progress in chap 6 until I beat Erlang in Chap3.
He's difficult, but not impossible.
Important to learn his phase 1 combo strings, all are easily perfect-dodgeable.
Master his early combo strings because he WILL repeat them in his combo flow in phase 2 and less-so in phase 3.
Hardest part is Phase 2 and Phase 3, when he mix-ups lazer-beam, high dmg with melee air-tactics... Complete BS.
Everyone has various strats for this boss fight.
I didn't have a Qi build or Might build -
I just save Fan for Phase 3, period -
Phase 1 and phase 2, I slow beat him down with normal spells/timings, perfect dodge and QiSpirit Weight headbutt as soon its off CD, always. (Again, saving fan spell for phase 3.)
Burst him the fack out once he's on the ground during phase 3, Fan him, pop a enhanced dmg pot, and go to town. (Also, using Qi Spirit Weight Headbutt.) Immobilize near the end of your combo-string while his shield is down. (By this point, you should have 4 points in focus,) to a HEAVY focus attack.
By now, his health should be critically low in phase 3, if not near death, and his shield should be restored at this point.
If he takes flight with stupid laser beams, I cast my Cloud-Step and RUN AWAY, top-off with Health pots in stealth, and pop a defensive potion too.)
If you are on CD here and no cloud step, I pop my transformation spell. (I use Yellow long, but I dont hit the boss as to avoid powering him up with thunder-magic etc. Yellow-Long's dodge is supreme. Of course ,you could use the Rock Guai instead and just cheese his shield-down, slow again too.)
You really have to play this boss to YOUR personal strengths. Are you good at perfect dodging? Are you conservative on Mana? Are you using Cloud-step? Save Cloud-Step spells for any obnoxious laser-beam phases, top-off health in steath and kick boss in ribs once grounded to resume pummeling him etc.
its ridicilous
if you try to burn him he makes hit away
if you try do make heavy attack he dodge
if you try stone he doesnt get stun
if you try buttfly item he still can attack you through
this design is soo bad and against the whole game i cant fking desribe it
no matter what you try he does the opposite to it
THIS IS NO FUN NERF THIS GARBAGE FINALLY
I tried to give a detail break-down of my approach... its scrappy, but it didn't involve any weird internet cheesing or crazy strats.
Just go ol, playing to my strengths in a hard action-game - Treated it like World of Warcraft Naxx raid boss with my rogue, haha.
I don't think calling for a nerf makes sense. It really sucks dying, but really, you can learn from this.
Phase 1 and Phase 2 are completely survivable without using a fan, and using proper dodge/escape mechanics.
Phase 3 on the other hand, you need the fight to end immediately - Burst and saving your high dmg options are your best bet. (includes fan.)
i killed his 1 and 2 phase shield byself 3 phase with fan
and than he had again shield?????????? is there a bug or what is going on??????????
Took me 3 days.... Like I said in another post, I had to quit the game. Come to find out it auto-saved at the shrine before you fight him. I had to fight him again. Beat him on my 5th attempt. Then I beat him on NG+ and getting ready to fight him again on NG++
He's more of a pain than he is hard.
Use upgraded spirits / curious for replenishing Qi.
Use Immobilize spell in right times.
Learn his move-sets.
Simple as that. Good luck.
azure attack's light attack will do huge dmg to his armor
and wukong mock erlang's spear been dull in the opening tutorial fight if u remember XD
erlang doesnt like hitting stone with his spear. u get to take time and smash erlang with azure dust's light attack
it will remove 4/5 of erlang's super armor

I followed this guide to beat him.
If I were to offer any complaints it is that his dodge of heavy attacks is pure RNG making a fight easier/harder for no valid reason at random (but due to this you don't use heavy attacks much anyways so it hardly matters). The other complaint is the tiny AoE of snow/energy wave pulse after some of his attacks which is weak but annoying.
This boss has a lot of attacks where you can get to his side/backside and hit him (even use Spinning Staff to build up Qi for spirits/artifacts/focus all at once, and it does great dmg to his shield).
The boss is mostly just a puzzle boss. Simple moves but you want to optimize your order of actions.
Like you can start out using the fan at the very start immediately breaking his shield and dropping him to 75% HP without any real retaliation. This means every time you fight this boss he, essentially, only has 75% of his health because his first phase is that easy.
Over the next two phases you will build up Qi with Spinning Staff when possible getting fan (and probably even earlier your spirit) ready for use again later. Qi builds up based on # of hits, not damage dealt, hence spinning staff.
In phase two you can summon your clones and trounce him for nearly free if lucky, or at least an easy phase 2 if not lucky depending on his behavior.
If done appropriately you can enter into phase 3 with 3 focus charged already (since there isn't much point in using a heavy attack as he can frequently automatically dodge it...). Use this to transform in phase 3 into one of your transformations either to deal free damage on shield as you weaken him or during an attack you have issues with / panic when low. If need be you can use the pills that restore might to do this a second time in this phase to make it easier. Obviously, transformations that carry over focus benefit the most from this. You should have spirit ready again at some point in this phase if not already in phase 2 to use. No idea what is the best spirit for this boss yet, tbh. Plenty of options.
By phase 4 you should have fan ready from prior phases and just use it to basically do your victory lap.
Really, the only hard phase is phase 3 (which you could use fan for but then that means phase 4 when he is strongest will be harder instead of super easy).
You can also use pills that revive you or reset cooldowns and spec into decoy very heavily to abuse that if you really want to make it easy.
Contrary to his appearance, I'm pretty sure he does not do lightning dmg so investing into lightning pills / using resistance stuff is pretty pointless on him. I saw no difference in brief testing of over 90 lightning resistance.
