Monkey King from 1986

First things first - I do not like China nowadays. Mostly becuase of totalitarian reign of ccp. With that out of the way, I do like chinese mythology and I do like common people of china.

You see at the year of 1986 (same year I was born) the live action series called Monkey King was released. Few years later it got also fully dubbed to my country and I loved those as a kid.

Without a doubt, the fables about monkey king are work of art. In any form these legends usually encapsulate wisdom similar to fables of the old Greece for example. Lessons about crime and punishment, about consequences of ones actions, about humility and determination.

No matter how silly those series were, I love it to this day. And since I know how prevail Sun is (Monkey King aka Sun Wukung, or Wukong or whatever variant you wish to name him) is not only in China but in some other asian countries, I have high hopes for this game.

Because once I saw trailers I was immediately transported back to my childdhoog with this more mature, more serious but stunning adaptation of legend that is familiar to me.

I think I will play this. And I am proud that despite all the hate and slander these developers are currently having, the heat they are in the west, lot of gamers are supporting and defending Sun.

It is a little ironical that Sun is going to his journey to the west not only in mythology but in real world too and overcoming struggles on both fronts.

Journey to The West was written in the year of 1592.

The TV drama was filmed by 1986.

That one is SUPER gory. Beheadings, real animal guts for props on dead people, people playing with dead bodies like dolls. Such a weird movie.

It's probably the most gory movie ever made; Truly a horror-fantasy/Grim-Dark.

Thank you. Ofcourse I know the TV series is not original work and that it is based on a book, but back in the early 90s as a kid I wasnt really interested in chinese literature, well to be fair in literature in general.

I am just putting this story out here to emphasize that Monkey King has really world wide reach and I bet this mythological hero brings smiles to faces all over the world.

I dont think we are talking about the same thing. The one I was reffering to wasnt a movie but TV drama, I think it had about 25 instalments.

Mate, the 1986 series owned & produced by CCTV a.k.a CCP's state media. I'm surprised to see the CCTV allows the dev to use the 1986 theme song in the latest trailer.

Not sure about the Chinese version of this game distributing by Steam China version & WeGame due to their strict video game censoring law, but god knows if the internation version will be censored as well.

As fan of Sun Wukong since the 1986 series, I'm still buying this game, but screw both CCP & Falun Gong cult.

I watched made in Taiwan comedy version of it.
"A Chinese Odyssey". I think it's more cannon then china's version of journey to the west
