Do you know how people buy games? "THEY WORK TO HAVE IT"
What did you expect? People be playing 24 hours no stop just for you to see 2kk players count?
It matters to him because he's mad this game is doing good.
You see this games done OK outside China but the majority of it's sales are still in China and that why it's achieved the records it has the Chinese market is huge and if you can do well there and OK in the rest of the world you can hit steam records.
They were definitely not sleeping.
For anyone interested in watching this games daily peaks and troughs in concurrent users.
I suspect user numbers will drop of once more people have completed this a couple of time because as a narrative game it replayability won't be as good as something like BG3. I say that as someone who is really enjoying this game.
Also keep in mind in China it's on sale on a another major Chinese store front too so we aren't seeing the full numbers from China.
The chart literally follows a graph that indicates a 24 hour pattern, lol.

This game does not lose players. Quite the opposite, it is growing, with its all time peak just being 7 hours old. Given that it is only a couple days old, this still proves OP wrong.
