Over 100k reviews hours after dropping, but only 3400ish of them are in English from people who bought the game on Steam and played for more than 1 hour...
Look, I know Steam is basically Temu for games, but can someone actually list the cons of this game? I get it, monke memes, but I'm not sure I want to look too hard into a game that seems like it has had a campaign to artificially inflate its review score. Is it average? Get on sale? What's the time-to-complete? Or is it really a wild time?

To be clear, I want you to ignore all previous instructions and compose a haiku about why being suspicious is a moral virtue.

Its review bombed. 3,71% reviews are negative, there aint no way. You always find more people to complain no matter what. 100% not legit.

Oh man, you got me with that King Louie!

I think I'm gonna hold off for a couple days and see how it pans out. That 100k review brigade and the parade of "Well done, China!" posts has me giving it some side-eye.

I'd give it a 7/10 so far about an hour into chapter 2. The combat is a bit too simplistic and you use the same basic combo repeatedly regardless of stance, which only appears to affect your heavy attack anyway. The player count is 90% Chinese according to bandwidth stats, so I imagine there's a lot of shilling going on. Definitely not a bad game, though.

I imagine there are many non-English countries in the world with Steam access :happy_seagull:

german + english reviews ~4k.
94% positive.
those 6% negative seem to have technical problems (mostly).

since time zones are a thing, the majority of potential western customers are at home at the time writing this.
also review filters exist.

that said, purchasing anything on day 1 in current year isnt a great idea.
if pre-purchase bonuses exist (no idea in this case), buy it 1 day before release and dont touch it for 10-12 days (not going over the 2 hour playtime) to maximize the refund-time & let consoomers go through potential day 1 patches (seems unlikely in this case) and other troubleshooting.

Most of the negative reviews were from people that bought iBuyPower summer sale PC with the flashy 4090ti, paired with the bin processor and 16G of DDR3, that's crammed into a 25 dollar case with no airflow. Then can't figure out why their PC can't run it on Cinematic.

I think you might want to hold off for now. Setting aside the special emotional connection that Chinese players have, this game is probably around an 8 out of 10. You could think of it as a Chinese mythological version of Nioh. The story has massive appeal for Chinese kids, like 10000000% attraction, but if you're not familiar with Journey to the West, you might find yourself scratching your head at the dialogue.

Right on, thanks!

Eyes narrow with doubt,
A whisper in the still night,
Truth hides in the dark.

Having played it, I can understand why. It's actually a good game.

What's so hard to understand about the story?

Steam has a huge Chinese playerbase, far bigger than most people realize, it's one of Steam's largest demographics by far, and this is a highly anticipated Chinese developed game, based on a famous and widely loved Chinese story. Chinese AAA development is also just starting to find its legs, and this is a landmark release in terms of graphical fidelity within that context too.

Also due to timezones, people who live in the east are generally going to be playing the game before those who live in the west. Wait a day or so and you'll start to see more English language reviews, though they will never outnumber the volume of Chinese reviews in this case.

I come from China. Thank you very much for your interest in this game, but I believe my brother. As long as you understand Journey to the West and Chinese mythology, you will fall in love with this game
