Cannot Absorb Spirits Without Guidance

finally killed the dumb big baby blue wight dude and I get that message when trying to take his blue soul thing. Then I went and defeated flaming boy and big white fur boss yet still cant get it, im confused.

Nevermind, it would help if I just continued and played the game.

I just killed the first boss.. really really hard. Took me like 100 tries and it said this. Did I just screw myself?

the "unpicked" purple soul can be claimed on the altar/bonfire later

any souls you miss can be collected at a shrine later after you get "guidance from a master," just continue with the story you will meet the NPC shortly, about 2 shrines after the one you encounter the wandering wight at.

Haha that was the first one I killed but also died several times. Then did not die on the Flame sword dude and Wolf...SHRUG.

Lol. It is kind of a weird game where you feel like rushing is what you are supposed to do. It's more of a boss rush game than anything IMO. There's not a ton to find (so far?) in the maps so yeah I feel you. But I have been trying to make sure I don't miss a path.

No, if you continue in the game you meet an npc that lets you do that to future ones.
Visiting the nearest shrine will let you collect the spirit you couldn't before.
