No you don't get any currency for kills, you don't lose anything from dying either, so no corpse runs. You unlock skills and can capture the essence of some enemies you killed to transform into them.
It's not a souls like, more akin to DMC or GoW

Devs have said it's more of an action game than a soulslike game.

From what I've read it has very few RPG elements to it. You unlock new abilities but there's not a skill tree or different gear to equip etc.
