no idea, cause not everyone has completed the original yet, but most of us read part of it and watched the Journal to the West(1986 TV version). If u read it, it might be helpful for understanding the story in the game.

You should, but not just for the game, it's a classic. Some reviewers seemed to think they would have more understanding of the game if they new about the story before going in but I don't think it's required. & with only 2 days to go I wouldn't sweat it, just put it on your list for later.

it will takes you plenty of time but you can know about the weakness of all the bosses by reading journey to the west. (game science hiding the weakness of some bosses in some character's lines, but you can found that in the book)
