is it just another anti-cheat? anti-tamper
Do they collect data? Whats wrong with it? probably not but it does consume a lot of CPU usage, rather unecessarily to the point where it is frustrating.
The main problem with Denuvo is that it requires the game to always be online as it collects a lot of data to send it periodically and causes excessive CPU and HDD usage that causes significant performance decrease. (and in some cases maked the games unplayable)
Denuvo is licensed by the game companies over a period of time and when that period expires they have to pay to renew it or remove it. In all cases when Denuvo was removed, the games saw a radical performance uplift.
Long story short is a anti-piracy solution which punishes the people who don't pirate it.
The benchmark tool already includes Denuvo so it already reflects the performance with Denuvo.
First off, using hdd for games today is a bad idea, especiallly considering how graphically demanding this game is. Even on a nvme/sata ssd, it takes a good few seconds just to load the demo. (i say sata ssd because unless game is directstorage optimized, you're looking at time between load being in milliseconds)
And secondly, it hardly uses any cpu at all. Get your facts straight before you spout BS.

If you where at least a bit documented on the matter you would know of the issue of denuvo reducing the lifespan of ssd's a few years back.
Showing an article from 5 years ago is hardly any proof comparing with all the games that have documented performance issues because of denuvo and a few that where unplayable because of it.
You should get your brain straight and stop shoveling BS in your mouth.
There is a constant debate going on, that this is untrue, but it has been debunked with the devs even implementing this DRM in their free benchmark tool. They did that, because they know of performance issues connected to Denuvo and wanted a "fair" test, so that the performance of the benchmark is on par with the game.
Another downside is, that if you're offline when Denuvo checks, it locks you out of your game. When their servers are down for maintenance, etc... you're down.
Denuvo is there to protect the publishers economy at the cost of your performance and accessibility.
You don't really own games on steam, since you cannot resell them as with phyiscal copies, you get a worse performance with an already high demanding game which potentially could lock you out, even if you're online all the time.
All that for 69.99/79.99 which is a steal XD...
Denuvo = no buy if you have any senses left.
