While I'm at it a few tips for where you are:
If you haven't gotten the flame cloak vessel in chapter 1 get it from the secret area (then leave it manually, not via shrine, and it will be from the tree right before 3rd bell).
Secret area of chapter 2 has a bell vessel to help with final chapter boss mechanic, and is generally best vessel in game until near end of game fan. This is actually because of the on command stun on the bell, with the dmg reduction being a bonus perk lol...
Chapter 2 giant rat boss... make it headbutt crack on wall. Then with your new item revisit shrine just before Wandering Wright in chapter 1 and find the nearby waterfall... Follow the voice. This is a reoccurring side quest series.
Help the alchemist just outside the area where the giant frog is. You will find him again, later, along a secret route within the blood pool. Permanent stat upgrades and legendary consumables he will give you frequently (moves to Zodiac Village when you unlock NPC hub in chapter 3's hidden quest).
If you can't beat the giant kitty in ketchup, go the other way. You will get much stronger and come back to teach Garfield a lesson later.
In general, chapter 2 is the beginning of where the game starts to have a ton of optional content. While chapter 1 may have seemed linear, and even later chapters are not open world, this game has a ton of extra content and is not short. Keep an eye out for goodies. Some bosses like the stone golem boss may have alternative solutions for better rewards... *cough* Buddha watches you.
