Simple. Players choice award was Wukong. Meaning the overwhelming majority of players think Wukong is their GOTY.
So if it really has that much weight for you the choice you have to make is simple. trust the players or the game journo's.
If you are rational tho then you choose if you want to play a platformer or an Action RPG.
Up to you
Many people claimed in former times that the earth was flat... so I do not know if this can be a good measurement. After all if the majority would have been right and it was actual a majority, it would have easily one GOTY. I guess I see what the Steam Winter Sale brings for discounts and decide upon that.
Denkst Du kannst mit Deinen zwei deutschen Wörtern imponieren? Yes, I do actually choose my time and financial budget between two different game, but you must have unlimited money to blow on games that did not win GOTY... right? Seems you must be a rich person. Why do you flaunt your richness at everybody's face! Please go away!
You can choose Astrobot, though I don't think the experience is all that worth it as it does nothing inventive or new. Much less, its a very safely designed Mario game. No FLUDD, No Hat to shapeshift, No Euphoria elements bending levels. Its like New Super Mario Brother in 3D.
Thank you for your insights... I'm still debating in my mind, as I also enjoyed a bit of "stripped down" platformers like New Super Lucky's Tale. Not for the challenge, but as a method to unwind. Life can be indeed stressful and sometimes a little game that just let's you be happy is always nice inbetween. Though I also like to be challenged and enganged... it is a conundrum...
No, I ask about either getting Black Myth: Wukong or Astro Bot and since Astro Bot already got GOTY, I still turn to guidance to see if I am not missing the bigger picture, but it seems if the BM:W community is that unwelcoming I better not turn to this game. I can only imagine the replies if I need help with the game judging by your behavior towards me!
As much as I am wanting to go this route, this is simply not in the cards. Sorry.
That's is the conundrum, both games are the genres I enjoy to play next ro RPGs, but still thank you for the descriptor. At least there are some in this community who are not outright hostile...
Already way ahead of you, but I want to broaden the pool of opinions, so I can have all the facts.
Okay, now it seems you are outright trolling me... this community still can tell about Black Myth: Wukong apart from the superficial information that can be glanced. So far none of the forum particpants here gave any rousing points why BM:W would be deserving of a purchase. No, they rather want to discuss the merit of my thread.
Meanwhile on other forums the community around Astro Bot gives glowing details and a welcoming attitude, even admitting to faults of the game, so I can make an informed purchase.
Unfortunately I think I don't need to wait for the steam winter sale to make a decision if this goes on.
Only you can make the choice. There are tons if reviews, videos and articles on both games.
Your initial take about the GOTY stuff is faulty as explained before. The GOTY category is decided for 90% by game journo's (according to the game awards website) and only 10% by player votes.
This is why the player choice category better reflects the voice of the people as that one is 100% decided by the player votes (hence the name).
That is why following your own premise you can make the choice between the better game of either the game journo's or the players.
Now if you drop that silly premise:
As stated both games are good and are praised alike. There is enough media online about both games for you to make an educated choice.
In the end it's your money, your call. Even tho it seems you made that choice a long time ago already.
