Chapter 3 is the longest in the game, felt like it just went on and on and on and on. 4 is a bit longer than 5, 6 is the shortest, it's just a boss rush basically.
Chapter 1 was them rushing out something solid to demo, so its very small, linear and boring.
Chapter 2 was them fleshing out what they learnt from chapter 1, but it branched out a bit too much, and paths were mazes.
Chapter 3, the devs gained mad confidence, and went berserk for game length. Most branching paths were circular, due to chapter 2, but they just took the length to 99.
Chapter 4, seems to be made alongside chapter 3, so they not only went berserk on length, but whatever lead in charge forgot to tell them to stop making mazes again, so they went berserk on the mazes, making it now vertical as well as horizontal, so they probably spent the most time here just figuring out where to put stuff. I feel chapter 4 is longer than 3, especially factoring the secret area, which is the biggest out of all the chapters. This chapter has the most variety of enemies, the most stories, the most plot, the pretty spiders, and the secret area has 3 bosses, plus half a dozen new enemies in it alone.
Chapter 5 was probably when the head guy sat all of them down and asked them to pull their heads in, because they're running out of time before launch, that's why this chapter is the next shortest after 1 and 6.
Chapter 6 was what they initially wanted it to be. This is from interviews, etc. They didn't know if they wanted open world GTA 5 style game, or GOW. So it was abandoned when they went the GOW route, then picked up in haste for launch again.
Its actually remarkable they put out something this good, even though you can tell the pacing of the devs were all over the place.
