Spoiler free please: endings and secret ending.
I’ve been trying to figure this out but struggle to understand. I know there are two regular and one secret/true ending. I know to get the true ending you need to complete secret areas and bosses in the game world. What I don’t understand is whether or not you can get the true ending, on your first playthrough. Do you need to get both regular endings first (through new game plus, doing one ending the first play through and the other regular ending the second play through, THEN in new game ++ get the secret ending??)

I just don’t want to miss out on stuff. I have a website I found with boss maps so that I can find everything….

u can get true ending as long as u defeat erlang and defeat great sage's broken shell.

u can get both ending if u defeat great sage's broken shell and do not enter NG+. load ur game save file from start menu and enter ur 1st playthru and back track to kill erlang and broken sage again to unlock both good and bad endings.

So I do not need new game plus to get the secret ending at all?

Yes, u dont need. Just complete a set list of side quests to unlock Erlang's fight.

There aren't three endings, just two. A normal ending and the true ending assuming you beat the secret boss. Some people might consider the post-boss cutscene after beating the secret boss as a separate ending, but it's not, since that doesn't end the game.

Beating the game doesn't immediately kick you into NG+, so even if you get the normal ending, you can just continue the current playthrough to get the secret boss and beat the game again for the true ending.

I would at least suggest getting the true ending before starting NG+ due to the reward you get from beating the secret boss and what it means for a NG+ run (also get it in NG+ as well for the same reason), that way if you decide to unlock every single upgrade that you can, you should be able to do it by the time you reach NG+++

Awesome answer. Thanks. OUtside of obvious increasing difficulty, any benefits to ongoing NG++++ etc.?

you can increase your curio slots to 5 in total. you need to challange the tiger armorer in the zodiac village 3 times total (normal playthrough, ng+ and ng++, you will get a curio slot every time until you reach 5)

also upgrading your 6 relics to activate all the 3 passives for all of them you need 3 playthroughs in total (up to ng++)

another thing is the bulls king armor set: you need at least 2 playthroughs (normal and ng+) to get enough material to craft the full set

the first two/three ng+ are an absolute cakewalk btw. its like the devs gave us the oportunity to get revenge on all those bosses. game becomes a little bit harder again with every subsequent ng+ you do from there.

i remember seeing someone do the dmg test.

NG+1 monster atk get 150%(50%more than original )
NG+2 stat 250%(150%more atk)
NG+3 340%ish(240%more atk)

pretty much every NG monster gets extra 90-100% increase on dmg til NG+5

they do more dmg yes, but their health doesnt scale as quickly and with all the skills and spells unlocked you just steam-roll them. i literally had bosses down within 10 - 15 seconds all the way through at least the first two ng+ playthroughs.

enemy health gets tougher after that, but ng+3 is still not too bad, its were you start to dodge again to avoid dmg. game becomes a different beast after that though ^^

Exciting stuff. Any suggestions on self handicaps?

Im at NG+5 .. im wearing the secret souzi armor that is found in chapter 6. It increases your defence in accordance to how many relics you have. After maxing out the relics I am at 901 defence.. but still some of the bosses may be able kill you with just 2 hits.

ng 3 isnt a cakewalk

I am kinda burnt out at this point but I decided I want all achievements and since I didn't use much guidance I kept missing things but that's on me. I can see how maybe NG4 and 5 will be a lot tougher. The first two NG were super easy. 3 isn't bad but since I'm basically almost max power outside of extra stances or abilities I don't even use, that's what will make the following ones more difficult.

Overall I think the games been fantastic. I definitely agree with people who are frustrated by the cut scenes and how they cut off all abilities and meds when they proc. Also just the input latency that has your input of spells not register and thrn start their cool downs. Those are for sure frustrating aspects. But still, as a whole, very fun and overall challenging but fair.

And way way more hours of play than what was coughed up by a lot of streamers who all basically just use guides that are curated for them to engage, get reactions and deliver times content on. If you play it blind, it's quite difficult if not near impossible to find some secret areas and many of the spirits and whatnot.

The production value of the game, music, acting, animation, fighting and variety of skills, talismans and armors is solid.

Chapter 2 is a confusing mess lol. Map does not help.
