Confused by the Dark Iron Staff

Says I get boosted attack for defense, I have 566 defense, but the attack feels no better than any other staff.
Is it only viable with the bull king armor?

Mostly yes, and also with secret wukong set on ng++ where he get 800+ defense

It is highest damage weapon the game.
bull king armor is also the arguably best armor in the game too. (full set allow you to not be staggered)

in NG++ my damage was 270ish
with spell binder my damage is 330ish. It just face rolls any boss. a stage 4 charged attack takes out 1/3 of most bosses health.
stage 3 charged attack 1 shots most regular enemies in the game.

There is 1 more set of armor that give higher defense, so also higher damage. It is in Chapter 6 in a chest behind a tree. (first shrine, turn around, fly along the valley, there is a tree on a mountain top) grants bonus defense based on how many senses you have unlocked and upgraded. With all 6 sense unlocked and upgraded, it give about 150 more defense than the bull king set.

Yes, you need kill Erlang 3 times to fully activate power of 6th relic, and defence if this set are grown to directly based to how many relics of great sage you activated, on ng++ you will get all relics fully active (bonus pack: you also unlock wukong stance and some quotes from protagonist in fighting)

You missed on upgrading the 6th senses 3 times !

Do every chapter's secret level, and after you finish chapter 5. go to chapter 3, there is a pagoda with a bunch red walls. Each secret level you completed will show a wall painting. The painting in the middle will have some cut scene if you get close to it. There you will fight Erlang.

you get the 6th sense by defeating him.

Then fighting the final boss in Chapter 6 will have slightly different intro and outro plus a new animated short film in the end. plus a new wall painting in that pagoda.

and like above post said. with all 6 senses fully upgraded. If you wear Wukong set and Wukong staff. You will be able to charge beyond 4th charge. if you do that you will activate Wukong stance outside of chapter 6 for a small duration.

How do you know what your attack is raised to from using the dark iron staff and the Bull King Armor? And how do you get it to go up ? I have both equipped and when I equipped DIS (Dark Iron Staff) my attack actually dropped -25 Atk from 167 to 142 from Jingubang?

So I must be doing something wrong I did EVERYTHING in my 1st Play-through that it allows so I wouldnt have to worry about anything in Ng so I crafted DIS soon as i got to my 1st Keepers Shrine in NG

But like i said i dont see my Atk increasing like it says , it actually drops when i switch from Bang to DIS so i must be doing something wrong im just trying to get the highest Atk possible

he is referring to wukong's secret armor set, located in chapter 6, in the 1st keeper shrine, call nimbus and fly backward, eventually, you'll see a box, inside is the secret armor. once you fully unlock all the relic, that set is the best when come to defense which work well the dark iron staff combine with spellbinder.

Yeah, grabbed that armor, honestly, I don't play anymore. At the end of chapter 4 I messed up an order on a secret boss and lost the secret ending chance, and it was my 4th run of the game, I just decided with nearly 100 hours, I got my moneys worth and wasn't worth doing more runs.
I may redownload with the future dlc.
