I fought that one a few times now and never saw this so often...maybe once or twice during the whole fight.
Here's a corrected version of your text:
(Why do I think so? bc how fast 1 certain boss goes into gold if you hit him weakly or hard from the start, and how ofter other bosses use fly abilities- Kang-Jin Star etc).
The Bear was one of the easiest bosses for me("item" also) but I totally believe the bosses can have different attack patterns, depending how hard you hit ´me, how much HP you have etc.
So it becomes very important to interrupt their patterns(main thing in Noble fight also), it´s bad with some bosses that can´t be staggered\frozen etc... Then it´s just "git gud".
It´s all my science from "magic ball" but would be interesting to know what devs have to say.
Also I would love to hear from devs about future update plans... but that´s a story for another time kids.
it seems that indeed boss may enter specific pattenr phases but seems random to me.
i literaly killed the errant spectre of begining in 15 s while i was (at same lvl and buff etc..) literaly stuck to him due to his chained combo (my stamina wasn't high enought to deal his chained combo and attacks).
but suddendly i got a phase where the boss was just doing crap attack and got him easy as peanuts.
same issue with the bear where his second phase (50% max hp) make him bezerker with chained combo.
it seems if u are lucky he will get crappy combo like just hitting around him instead of tekken combo (i count around 10 to 12 hit in a row before the 1s stop, menaing u clearly have too low stamina to hit and even doing so, way to low damage to be interesting)
also damage on this boss are quit low
The only forced dodges are when the bear becomes unhittable/ uses black wind. We could have 6 dodges w out punish, but there would be breaks in between.
After the charge there's the potential there will be a burstless dash towards you. So keep an eye out and be ready to dodge again.
You should be able to avoid getting hit after you figure out the rhythm/pattern.
Like everyone else said, stay on his butt.
