The only fight I hate in this game is great sage brocken shell
Why? He's not my copy, he's just better in every way. Not only that but his stage two cripples me in a way no other boss fight even comes close to doing.

it's doable but man, ♥♥♥♥ whoever designed this.

2 piece Galeguard, 1 piece Ochre (gauntlets specifically) and the See No Evil headband for easier perfect dodge. Makes the entire thing a cakewalk imo. Once you understand his moves, it's a nonstop perfect dodge fest and 3-4 focus punishers.

Cloudstep to dodge his attack from the cloud or when you really need that safety. (this also prevents him from casting Immobilize on you when healing too much, he targets the clone). He always does his Immobilize after the same amount of Heal spam, it is entirely possible to perfect dodge his Immobilize if you know this!

JGB is nice if you haven't done Erlang beforehand. Otherwise use what Erlang gives you. Never go past 2 light attacks, unless 100% sure and 'See Through' as many attacks as you can.

I 100% agree the fight was a pain at the start, I was mad too lol. But as you get used to his moves, it has become the most enjoyable fight in the game for me.

Yes but that's just skill to win. What's really pissing off is that he can throw his staff and I can't and it doesn't matter if I turn invisible, he will still freeze me when I heal which is makes no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense at all.

His staff throw is annoying for sure, but it doesn't deal high damage and he will (almost?) always do it after teleporting/jumping a great distance away. It can even be easily sidestepped by just running sideways if you're unsure he will throw or not when moving away from you.

The Immobilize while in Cloudstep weird though, whenever I dive into Cloudstep and then heal he just targets my clone with the spell. Then again, you can Perfect Dodge the Immobilize cast. Although the timing is pretty tight of course.

I just wish i could throw the staff.

I've just accepted the chug as one of those things that's going to happen unless I time it perfectly.

Man I really wish we had some ranged options for sure. Nothing too crazy, but a poke or something at least.

For the chugging, as long as you don't spam 3 (or was it on 4th?) in too short of a window he won't cast the Immobilize. He got me a lot with that in the beginning too, but as you get better at the fight with dodges and "see through" you won't run that risk at all.

We kinda do with the needle and transformations but yeah.

As for defense just don’t get hit lol.

The build I run is designed to maximize defense and attack with the pilgrim set so I can brawl. Only Took me 5 tries this time.
I finally get this fight. I beat it with spellbinder, full galeguard, and jingubang using smash stance.

What clicked for me was making sure I only ever engaged in a committed way when I had at least 1 focus, poking from neutral with light attacks very slowly, and immediately shifting to resolute strike the moment he attacked. If he responded to my resolute strike with a punishable move, I would follow up with skyfall. If not, just dodge out of it and respond to his attacks, rinse and repeat.

I was having a hard time enjoying this game until I unlocked spellbinder and then it became really really good. Beat Erlang with the same build and playstyle too, in a much less graceful manner. But that's what NG+ will be for. Erlang is very hard.

I was really having trouble with this game and found it to be very frustrating and lacking in potential because of how fights went with abilities, but spellbinder really makes it complete and changed my perspective of it entirely. I went from saying it was a 0-3/10 game when I was most fed up with it, to saying it is at least a 9.5/10 game that deserves GOTY easily after unlocking spellbinder and achieving the true ending.

Very good game.

Also, for immobilize off gourd use, you can avoid it 100% of the time if you just immediately dodge after drinking. I don't think I was lucky since I did it for so many attempts, it just works.

He's the most fun boss fight.
I fought him 10 or more times just to get all his animations xD
He has this swagger that's usually unseen in videogames.

Not trying to spoil too much
But enjoy getting these animations. Try out different moves and spells. Even even healing yourself isn't safe xD

i can confirm this is incorrect. in my kill of sage i was dodging the immobilize and he still did it to me when he was less than 25%

which isn't surprising. this game has a lot of moments like that where the player has no control. it makes the encounters annoying which reduces overall fun factor.

maybe you didn't time the dodge correctly? you absolutely have control you can see him attempting to do it when you dodge it after gourd use.
Wow, He rattled you badly! That's EPIC considering how good a troll he is/was :D
