Fix for Black Myth Wukong Game Crash to Desktop
Hi All,

I was running into this problem where I couldn't even get through the benchmark without the game crashing to the desktop screen. I see a lot of folks suffering the same issue, so I thought I'd report my findings. Hopefully it can help at least one other person.

System:
MoBo - ASUS TUF x299 Mark 2
CPU - Intel i9-10980xe
Memory - 64GB
GPU - ASUS TUF OC 3080 12GB
PSU - 850W
OS - Win 11 Pro

First, make sure your system and drivers are updated. Then verify the integrity of the game files in Steam.
Second, restore your GPU to factory default by removing any overclock or underclock settings.
Once all that is ruled out, remove any undervolting setting changes to your CPU, if any. I'm no expert, but from what I was able to find, I strongly suspect that Unreal Engine 5 is unstable at low voltages. In my initial setup, my CPU was undervolted with an offset of -0.110V, and my TUF MoBo is an entry level board so the power delivery isn't exactly the best. At idle my CPU is getting ~0.67V with undervolting. The system runs fine, and I could play any other game without issues, but as stated, I could not even make it through the BMW benchmark without crashing.
After restoring the voltage settings in my BIOS, I was able to run and progress the game, however there are certain areas in the game that is still causing it to crash. I believe this is because of spikes in CPU usage as the map changes. So to fix this, I used Intel XTU and started to increase the Core Voltage Offset by +0.005V every time it crashes. You can also change this in the BIOS, but with Intel XTU you don't have to keep restarting your computer. Then I'd open the game again, run through the affected area just to doublecheck. I'm currently at a +0.015V offset and progressing without further issue as of this writing, but I must disclose I just finished chapter 2 and now starting chapter 3.
I must also place a disclaimer to try this at your own risk, since pumping more voltage into your CPU comes with its inherent risks.
One other thing you can try is to turn off XMP for your memory in the BIOS. I personally didn't have to do this but from what I've read, someone mentioned that the shader compilation of this game is CPU and RAM dependent. So I'm assuming an unstable overclock of the memory can also trigger a crash.

Try all or any combination of these steps and hopefully it'll work for you.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

well i had zillion crashes and tried every single thing online except this. but i have finished the game somehow and uninstaled it.
when you talk about cpu voltage, is that vsoc where is default voltage of 1.25.?

Im running the game with XMP set to enable on 128gb of ram.. No issue so far.

Intel XTU calls it Core Voltage, but I believe it's Vcore in my BIOS. Vsoc is completely different. But again I'm not a professional, so do be careful when messing with voltages.
