Why is he silent?
Why does the protagonist talk in the prologue but he's silent for the rest of the game?

So the protagonist is a clone of Sun Wukong?
he is a descendant of sun wukong known as the destined one whos sole purpose in the game is to defeat gods in order to become stronger and claim the 5 pieces of sun wukongs soul in order to become strong enough to defeat him and become the next sun wukong in line. Also the sole purpose of u defeating sun wukong was to break the seal that prevented wukong from using his full abilities which was the "crown" on his head. The crown tightens every time sun wukong tries to use his powers preventing him from using them. Therefore he needed to be defeated and split his soul into five parts in order for a descendant to put him back together, defeat him and absorb his soul bc only then would the curse be broken and sun wukong's soul would be free of the curse. Therefore you would be the next sun wukong at full power as if nothing ever happened. Read The journey to the West btw, its a very good book, highly recommend and its a very in depth book.

Pretty sure he is the same person. He's a part of Wukong that reïncarnated and will eventually become the true Wukong again.

And it's not all that uncommon to see this type of reincarnation where the character can survive through death by having some sort of vessel ready. Also God of Highschool pretty much did this as well and the protagonist is pretty much Sun Wukong. The MC pretty much revives through some of a reïncarnated clone decades after he died in a very similar way.

he is wukongs successor, i wasnt wrong with what i said. Hes a descendant, who is a reincarnation. Sorta like link from legend of zelda he came back after the old link. But the destined ones main purpose was to break the curse and defeat and absorb wukongs soul therefore he becomes wukong. As if nothing happened. Thing is though that the destined one is not a clone, hes a whole different person. Journey to the west is a really good book btw.

also wukong didnt die he split his soul, he was more in the lines of a deep slumber awaiting to be woken up basically.

It was a joke, but by definition, he isn't silent.

And mechanically, he does talk but apparently it's after several NG+?

I am used to it from Legend of Zelda games.
According to spoilers, there is a reason too

Pretty odd to do since this was based on a book where the character is a known yapper. It's not a typical character from a Souls game where it's literally just a blank slate.
that "yapper" is sun wukong, the final boss of the game. You play as his descendant two entirely different people with different personalities. Also, the whole purpose of the game is that you "the destined one" defeat sun wukong in order to break the curse and become the next wukong in line. Pretty simple stuff really.
So what's stopping you from talking? If he's not physically mute don't bother with your cope.

I complained about this and some more when the game first came out lol.
To those trying argue "lore" and "he's a decedent of Wukong" etc. Above all the MC is a fxing MONKEY! does he look like a monkey or act like a monkey? In the first chapter monsters called the MC "monkey" and in later chapters (4 or 5, I forgot) they outright call him "monk". I mean WTH? Is that not the exact thing Wukong/MC trying to get away from ?Anyways, the MC is more like reincarnation of Jin Chanzi than Wukong lol.

yes there is the reason link is mute, it has been explained in breath of the wild, and that is because he feels it is necessary to stay silent bc it is a sign of strength when times are tough. It also is to silently bear the burden of his ordeals. Btw i love talking about zelda games, i am a sucker for all things zelda related, im very knowledgeable of the timeline. Nintendo actually finally just updated the timeline of zelda btw you should check it out! It fixed the confusion of where botw and totk take place in it.

i misread this comment, I have no idea why the mc doesnt talk, i wish the developers told us. But the important thing is that the destined one and sun wukong are two different people with two different personalities. Until ng+4 that is, When you are officially sun wukong 2.0 at full power.
