The protagonist is not a complete wukong, and needs to complete his divinity step by step along the way

he is a descendant of sun wukong known as the destined one whos sole purpose in the game is to defeat gods in order to become stronger and claim the 5 pieces of sun wukongs soul in order to become strong enough to defeat him and become the next sun wukong in line. Also the sole purpose of u defeating sun wukong was to break the seal that prevented wukong from using his full abilities which was the "crown" on his head. The crown tightens every time sun wukong tries to use his powers preventing him from using them. Therefore he needed to be defeated and split his soul into five parts in order for a descendant to put him back together, defeat him and absorb his soul bc only then would the curse be broken and sun wukong's soul would be free of the curse. Therefore you would be the next sun wukong at full power as if nothing ever happened. Read The journey to the West btw, its a very good book, highly recommend and its a very in depth book.

I'm almost done with chapter 5... I don't think there has been an explanation yet.

BUT... even if there was an in game explanation, it's probably just post-hoc. In other words, it's just an excuse to make the protagonist silent.

Don't care about the lore implications. It's still doesn't justifying making your character flat out mute. In fact it would have been better if your character steadily regrows to have similar confidence. They have all these scenes where your character is up to mischief or they show he actually has a personality through actions but couldn't commit to it because there's no dialogue(Like the beginning where you're an apple).

Shame too since they have good voice actors for Wukong.

The character you play is you. Make him talk. Not sure why he doesn't speak, I mean he can understand what other's are saying. The developer just probably wanted the player feel like they were the Monkey.

Pretty odd to do since this was based on a book where the character is a known yapper. It's not a typical character from a Souls game where it's literally just a blank slate.
