Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong

Do most Chinese know the mythology behind Sun Wukong?
This seems to be a giant hit in China. Wondering if this is chiefly due to the myth being extremely well-known in China, like King Arthur is in Britain, for instance.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

i guess 101% of chinese who have access to tv in the 80s 90s start watching them right away (in the old day usually one village only get like 1 or 2 tv, and everyone gather around to watch it every night)

i believe its still broadcasting once every few years, since kids grow up and watch them just like we did.
Story is too deep, uses obscure bits from the novel crossed with internet theory, like the jade emperor cheating business, only turbo nerds talk about that stuff. Reality is pisgy SA'd too many of the moon maids so they sent him down.

If you go into the lore channels, you'll find Chinese people still confused about a lot of what has happened. Just go to any of the chapter 4 MV videos, people asking when this or dad happened, who's the maid, which spider is this, etc.

Same for chapter 5, people questioning wtf happened and when it happened. Bull king's 2nd solo rebellion apparently only gets talked about by the turbo nerds on the Chinese interwebs.

Its like a vaati vidya make up your lore type of thing. Prepare to cry, why red boy only showed up after princess iron fan did, and never talked to his dad.

You can tell the creator of wukong used to spend all his time on Chinese forum fighting other turbo nerds about fine points of the novel.

"And you should too." How do you figure and how do you assume to know anything about the poster, their origin, education and interests that would still not validate that supposition? There is no doubt very few people know about it in the West which shouldn't be surprising when people barely know anything about American classic lit or very simple historical or foundational aspects of their own country and politics let alone classic lit. Classics are considered TV shows from the mid aughts such as the office these days.

You went on the defense way too quick. "You should too" meaning you should check it out because it's a cool story not "HOW DARE YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS 16TH CENTURY BOOK"

Be less offended next time. More importantly; you can't change what the term "classic literature" is just because you think The Office is a book for some reason.

Wow, yes I am genuinely sorry. It's been one of those days where even before you mentioned this that I was catching myself in my feels too much. Sorry about that. I was just being very sarcastic about the office.

All good lol We all have bad days. I just meant people who like the game should read the story (or an abridged version maybe) because it's interesting and compliments the game pretty well.
It extends beyond China, I believe Japanese are familiar with JTTW, and majority of South East Asian ethnic Chinese know at least the kids tale short version of the story. Kids tales like little red riding hood to learn English, and some short kids version of JTTW to learn Mandarin.

No, that is a very poor assumption of Americans, yes we have many idiots like the rest of the world, but comparing the office to mark twain is dumb.

Classic American stories such as Atlas Shrugged, Huckleberry Finn, Moby ♥♥♥♥, and Jackass 3D.
lol, sounds right
