Resolute Counter flow doesn't nullify enemy attacks most of the time with bosses. Is this intended behaviour?
It says on the skill page for Resolute Counter Flow:
During Resolute Strike, one can "see through" incoming enemy attacks and nullify their damage.
However in practice whenever I tried this with the Wandering White and Lingxuzi most of the time my Resolute Counter flow never actually nullified their attacks.

Did you actually got the "see trough " attack ? ( the staff gets red )
redhongkong Sep 2, 2024 @ 4:43am
it glow red if u hit it at the exact time when u get attacked
its white/silver if its not . same goes to dodging at the exact time give u a shadow clone

and it doesnt stop next attack damaging u. so its more useful if u use it on enemies' combo finishing move

Staff gets red while walking even, is that see through? I don't understand.

It does if you do it correctly, but the initial window to pull off the move successfully is very limited. You can increase the window later with certain items to make it easier to land. Just need to practice the timing and learn how to work around the game's innate animation locks to pull it off consistently.
Alright so it's a timing thing. Then it's fine, I will keep trying it then.

So it doesn't stop enemies combos? But I thought it did stop the combo attacks as per the description of the move.

You need to time it, just like a parry, just before the enemy's attack is about to hit you you activate the resolute counterflow, it has tight window, but once you land it, you nullify damage taken.
To make it more clear you can always counterflow, but the one you want is to counterflow right before enemy attack

it count as heavy hit, has potential to stagger/ knock off balance. but some boss are just tougher require multiple hits to stagger or knock off balance.
if they stagger/ knock off balance, then the combo ends

but its always safer to use this on boss' combo finishing move, unless u dont mind eatting incoming damage
It's all in the timing.

I am very familiar with Sekiro's parry and that's how I expected it to work, the problem was I think that I was doing normal light attack combos and in between them I used to try to time the heavy? Is it not like that? Can I just do a few light attacks step back and then do heavy only when the enemy is about to attack me?

I just want to perfect parry

Alright, will give this another few days and will come back here again.

It has to be in a combo, you can't just do light attack then step back and do heavy attack. That will just be a charged heavy. The key is DO NOT spam light attack.

The timing/window of the damage immunity is very tight and will not work of most major attacks unless you completely luck out. You can use it to reliable counter normal enemies or some easy boss attacks. I invested into increasing the invulnerability window of dodge and counter and there was noticeable difference in how easy was to trigger the immunity. I also had a lot more success with Bash stance and its counter than Thrust stance where it was very hit or miss to trigger it.

Oh I thought to do this I HAD TO spam light attack or it won't work

If you are fighting an enemy that has unbreakable chain attacks it will often parry the first part and damage you through the second part of the attack. Only a handfull of bosses so far have punished me for this. I recommend not using any other ability that turns the staff red while you are working on your timing. Use skyfall strike skill to follow up with good damage even if you dont execute the parry. It can stun most bosses and will avoid some damage. after CH2 you can extend the parry window using a relic which makes parrying much more viable.
