Question about Black Myth: Wukong and Journey to the West

Is the story of Black Myth: Wukong happen before or after or during the Journey to the West?

It's based on a single character from Journey to the West. Technically there's a single line of dialogue that indicates that it's possible that Journey to the West happens after the events of the game but in the next breath they tell you that Wukong never went on that Journey to begin with.

It's why you play as unnamed character. In saying that I myself haven't read journey to the west, I remember a bunch of films as a kid though.

It's very clear it's set after, if you have seen any of the chapter ending animation they all reference to JTTW.

after, Wukong went back to his mountain and doesn't want to be a buddha anymore, the celestial court didn't like that why they sent all the warriors to defeat him at the beginning of the game

I think it takes place 500 years after the original story, and the actual main character is not WuKong himself.

No golden band if before. Existence of golden band means it's after.

Besides that, the entire affair with bull King says its after. Literally the entire chapter 5 talks about the fallout.
