He is SO easy!! I beat him on my first attempt. My advice is use that fire proof spell you get by beating that gold monk and dodge... like A LOT! GL!!

Look around a bit and find/ring the three bells. Defeat the boss in the area you unlock as a result and you'll get a piece of equipment that vastly reduces the amount of fire damage you take. Convenient, eh? This'll become a theme. Exploration is greatly rewarded.

That's what I love about this game. One man's bane is another man's huckleberry. I surprised myself by beating him on the first try.

If you have the Serpentscale armor which heals you then you can use a spell when you're below 50% health to heal up to save on some gourd healing. Cloudstep takes 35 sec to recharge and costs 30 mana and then an undisclosed additional mana cost to maintain cloudstep while immobolize takes 50 sec to recharge and costs 50 mana. Personally I transformed early so most of the damage went to the transformation first and allowed it time to recharge during the fight for another go around. Once he's on fire the burn state doesn't hurt him so it's down to weapon damage from the transformation. The transformation also removes burn state so you could choose to save it for when you're on fire. I have 3 points in focus point healing which lets me heal small amounts using varied combos. I also bought the seeds from the monkey merchant to add to the coconut wine to heal a small amount over time after the initial drink. Between the armor and the drink it can bring you back to 100% in one drink. I also prefer the Guangmo spirit instead of the Wandering wight that everyone seems to favor. The poison state isn't immediate but it will chip away his health. With some upgrades you can add snakes to the summon. His attacks have a windup so you can mostly tell when to dodge after a while. Attacking from behind also limits the attacks he can do against you to his body slam. This means less dodging if you have trouble timing it. Burn state can be removed by dodging as stop drop and roll works in the game. Otherwise you could consider fighting the secret boss Elder Jinchi for fire immunity. If you'd rather not do that fight there are also pills that can remove burn state and increase fire resistance for a short while.

Constantly dodge when he goes into spirit form. Attach when you get an opening then get out. Rinse and repeat. Use all the abilities you have. Chapter 2 is much easier after you've defeated the bear. Don't give up:steamhappy:

Great reply (needs more paragraphs though lol... bit if a wall of text).

Remember you can totally re-spec for free OP, so you can completely re-spec to suit every boss fight if you really want to go that far.

its hard to say what u can do to increase the chance of winning black bear...

but i think u should practice how to use resolute counter and skyfall strike

and maybe use 1hit 1dodge tactic at all time
unless bear is immobilized/knocked off balance

just like its human form, the invisible flying ball has a sonic boom before its gonna fly toward u. u wanna roll side way in order to get higher chance of dodging it, even if u dodge early or dodge late, u usally gonna get away as long as u roll side way

use guangzhi and wandering wight at the 1/3 hp mark maybe

It took me time for whatever reason as well. I had to just level up a bit more and study the actual moves better. I think this game doesn't really give a lot of OP level ups that can take out the need to be strategic and maximize the tools available to you. Keep at it. I wish I could say it's easier after but there's plenty of tough bosses and I'm still wandering around what I'm thinking is the very end of level 2 that I thought would end hours ago SMH. I love it.

For me it was about practise and timing, and using sparing attacks and punishing him on knock back, serpent scale armour is a must and fire mantle, use big baby attack for extra damage
