Pillar stance is insane
Its very good vs large bosses.
Max focus has an insane range with 99% hit chance. If you struggle with a big boss give it a try. Just do your combos to build focus and instant level 3-4. Smash stance max level heavys are slow and inconsistent and buggy af.

Personally I prefer the Thrust stance, but I guess I should give Pillar another try

thrust evade timing be nice, while keeping an enemy pushed away

pillar stance is getting more tanky as your stamina increases and very point efficient (only use the left hand side), less micro and fun to watch most enemies can't do much about it before the giant pillar slams their head.

The stripper pole move is very hard hitting. Try using it against regular mobs, they die really fast.

Ive found that the parry window on the smash stance is extremely good. Ever since the end of CH2 I have beaten almost every boss without using my gourd more than once. My parry heals me, and with the follow up heavy I get really good damage. Im halfway through ch4 and im just waiting for a boss that will force me out of my comfort zone.

Yin Tiger (secret chapter 3)
Yellow Loong (secret chapter 4)
Scorpion King (secret chapter 5)
Great Sage Shell... (chapter 6)
or Erlang (secret chapter 6)

That are probably the only bosses that *might* force you out of your comfort zone...

Also I prefer Thrust Stance with Tri-Point Spear...

Yeah Im nowhere near ready for the blacksmith. His moveset is insane and health pool is mean. I tried like 4 times and then kept on with the story. Ill get back to him when im stronger.

Learn how to use three stances and switch stances during light attack combo. All three stances heavy attack are powerful depending on the situation you're in.

Some bosses will punish you for relying on one stance too much. Learn to switch it up.

pillar stance I've found to really not be it even maxed out.... with the exception of using the golden loong staff. Then it becomes amazing because thunderblight on demand is disgusting

Haven't tried the combo with maxed ring of fire yet, will probably experiment

Been trying out pokey boy stance with the sealing spell. Sealing spell is one of those things that is fun, but maxed out RoF makes a lot of fights easier if you can stay near/inside.

I'm just using the buggy Smash stance for entire game (including all the secret bosses, without NG+) for the true hardcore E-Sport-Not-Ready experience. Nothing feels better than experiencing Made In China hitboxes.

All tools in the game as its uses, well that is if you got good and realised how and when to apply them correctly for the desired outcome. But, yes the big fly swatter works wonders...
