what helped is don't look at his weapon for information, try staring actually off of the character, reacting to when something starts to connect rather than when anything else is happening (beat in 2 attempts next day with this , with originally 30deaths)
in terms of cheese, attempt a crit build with occasionally completely backing off as in your usual run and charging thrust stance, he will only aggro in close range, mid range he can just wander around 60-70% of the time, giving you free pot shots
Back to Yellow Loong, I suggest you full spec to Thrust Stance as he is direct counter to Smash stance (he will deflect your Resolute Strike 100% of the time). Thrust stance allows you to use heavy attack from very long range and with proper skill investment you can get 4-focus point heavy attack out instantly.
You will have to learn his combos and how to dodge them. He has long delays between attack but the good thing is he does not alternate those delays, it is one pace.
You also need to learn his phases, usually after you remove 25% of his health or so. New phase is indicated by his lightning power up and flying attacks. Each phase means he will start chaining more attacks to his combos. What I recall is that after first phase he adds AOE lightning attack followed by AOE delayed lightning explosion. He will also start doing few more attacks into his combos where he spins around and uses his legs to stomp you. Next phase he will add more attacks to his AOE combos where he jumps into air and slams down. Each phase will add more attack or repetition to his attacks but they are still possible to dodge. You need to also identify, which kind of attack he is doing as some give you openings for attack while others you need to dodge out of the way.
You can knock him out with 3 or 4 focus heavy attack of his lightning power up but he still switch phases and he will eventually do the power up anyway, you just delay it.
Very important thing is to deal with his flying attacks after the power up, there are 3 (or 4, not exactly sure) charges and then he slams the ground. You should get as far away from him as possible when he starts the power up to get yourself more distance and time to react. Run to one side and watch his hands, it is indicator when he charges. His first charge takes longer and every consequent charge goes off faster, the last one was the most challenging for me as it goes off very fast.
Good luck with him and look forward for more BS bosses toward end of the game. Good thing is that if you defeat him, rest of chapter 4 and all of chapter 5 should be a breeze for you.
After that, Yellow Loong was in 2 Trys gone.
But: 2 of those Secret Boss fights are pretty heavy
ScorpionKing is true pain in da a€€ XD
Yellow Loong is one of the better-designed bosses. He could be harder.
As for Yellow Loong he is definitely one of the 3 main examples of how Black Myth Wukong employs some sort of randomised/RNG AI mechanic that deters from standard ARPGs/Souls games. You can actually see this on various game VODs & streams where the boss will be harder or easier depending on whether they trigger their entire move sets, how fast they trigger, the randomised delay, the obfuscated tells etc.
For yellow loong he does counter pretty hard smash stance & sticking to smash stance is akin to trying break through a brick wall head butting. Also note this game intentionally punishes when a player tries to take medicine during heat of battle (not the gord). You’ll find when you’re starting to queue attack, dodge and even heal inputs; the game can feel sluggish out even completely ignoring new inputs especially if it’s taking a medicine.
I think once I accepted how Black Myth Wukong intentionally obfuscates and randomises boss AI, it becomes easier to accept that you can’t just memorise patterns and expect same outcome each subsequent fight.
Keep at it brother and soon you will butcher him. Damn I should have kept him alive for sparring.
Edit: One general tactic I use quite a lot is having my Mobile Spin maxed out - so when I hit people with it my Focus charges up quite fast. That way, when he does one of these big telegraphed attacks, or dive-bombs, I can Smash through it with my bread n butter Resolute Strike. Anyway, I'm sure you've got your own style going on. Go get him!
