I guess I would've understand what was happening if I had found the scorpionlord first.
This kinda sucks.
Good to know, I was thinking of skipping scorpion earlier today. I haven't encountered Duskveil yet.
You can learn more about him in Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maori_Xingguan
I see, thank you!
She kidnapped Tang Sanzang, attempted to force him to marry her. She failed and was subsequently killed by Maori Ji with a caw. This is partially due to the symbolic meaning in Chinese culture on how roorsters, which Maori Ji is, are the natural enemy of "venomous bugs". So Maori Ji's caws are fatal to most arthropod based yaoguai. This is why the Scorpionlord dies when Duskveil caws to enter the second phase, he may be corrupted, but he's still a divine rooster.
The Scorpionlord is here for revenge, but is aware that he cannot defeat the Duskveil alone. So spends his time drinking away his sorrows and bitterness.
In the original Journey to the West, Maori Ji's mother Pilanpo Bodhisattva owned a magical needle, which was forged within Maori's eye. This needle was originally borrowed by Sun Wukong to defeat the Hundred-Eyed Daoist in the past. By the time of the game, the needle has lost its power alongside the dissapearance of its original owner. Which is why the needle's power can be restored by poking Duskveil, it was made using his power.
The Snake is a friend of Pilanpo, and is here to seek out what became of Maori Ji. Maori Ji, much like many deities who helped Wukong in the original journey were purged from heaven, hence ending up as a science experiment by the Hundred-Eyed Daoist.
I was really confused about what it was.
Yes, a Sun Rooster. The snake lady is also another officer in the 28 Mansions along with Duskveil/Dawnstar and Kang Jing Loong.
It's also likely both Buddha's Left and Right Hand belongs to Pilanpo Bodhisattva, because same Master brought it to Hundred Eyes along with the Golden Needle and the Monster Egg. The game heavily hinted that it's Lord Lao himself.
*** the reason they call this "black myth" is because of this "made up" dark story
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the backstory is Daoism were using "guai" or "god" to make "immortal pills"
oritental/eastern Daoism isnt having very good of relation with western Buddhism (religion spread into Daoism land)
idk about the details, but i believe the Armourworm has somekind of ability to "upgrade" and/or "mind control" guai or god in the cocoon
the whole spider cave and Daoist temple were part of this Daoism "immortal pill factory"
they bait or trap human follower into Daoist temple every year and transform them into those ugly bug guai
then capture them and wrap them in cocoon and wait for them to ferment into better/higher "grade" just so they can be made into better immortal pills.
thats also 1 of the reason why 4th sister wanna get out of this sshtt hole. (theres more to it. hard to explain)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Duskveil was a god on celestial court,
son of Bodhisattva Pralambra (the left hand in frog and right hand bug are probably from her dead body.)
duskveil were searching for her mom but got tricked to be infected with "violet hail" just like Daoist Mi
they were both on buddhism side, and owner of that mountain. obviously Daoism wasnt happy about it and overtake it (thats the reason u see that mountain full of Daoism follower).

*** this is also the reason wukong the following to erlang in the opening scene battle
erlang "have u any idea how many would give their everything for immortality?"
wukong "immortality? for that word, all realms and beings have ruined themselves"
