Pillar Stance use?

Can't figure out the use for pillar stance. It's charged power attack feels like it takes longer to charge than smash or thrust. The whirlwind doesn't seem useful past the first area because it feels like a majority of the mobs in maps 2/3 are ranged/flying/larger enemies with out adds. And the main reason I put points into it "You can avoid ground attacks" doesn't seem to work at all. Every boss with a ground based AOE just immediately knocks you down and damages you. I'm probably just be using it wrong, but the other 2 stances feel so much better to use in fights and this one just frustrates me because every attack seems to go through and knock me down.

Easily the best heavy attack, but a certain end game staff convinces me the thrust stance is best.

I like it, to get a quite fast heavy with huge reach, if I have some focus points. But I didn't explore thrust stance much, yet
