Respect for the source material

I wonder how people think about how this game handles its source material. After we have a defacto happy end in Journey to the West, this game opens with wukong being killed. Then we play the entire game with a wukong lookalike, who has none of wukongs endearing personality, no personality at all actually, and then the game ends with said lookalike beating up wukongs corpse.

I feel like if this was a western game about a beloved western tale, there would be an outcry for disrespecting the source material, quite literally desecrating its corpse. Thoughts?

Sir, Wukong is not a person or in this case monkey, Wukong is a state of being, a godhood in a sense.
Sun wukong does die yes, but the character you play as is essentially a reincarnation of him, and once more reaches the state of Wukong and plays through the journey that was required to reach that point.

Sir, Wukong is not a person or in this case monkey, Wukong is a state of being, a godhood in a sense.
Sun wukong does die yes, but the character you play as is essentially a reincarnation of him, and once more reaches the state of Wukong and plays through the journey that was required to reach that point.

There is nothing about that in journey to the west though, that is solely made up by the game to justify what I initally posted about.

Sorry, but being dishonest about this game isn't a good look, OP.
And making up crap about God of War series doesn't help either.

The original was Greek, and nothing in the newer ones craps all over Norse mythology.
Also, why claim Scadanavians?
That's not even the same thing as Norse Mythology.

My thoughts are that it's fine if you disliked the story for whatever reason. But it's childish to demand devs to "respect" the source material, they probably did, but they used their creativity to give their own spin.
